Not looking for humor here, just a favorite quotation from a Christian author or one that is spiritual in nature.

Why? Just came across Luther's vindication for his use of strong language (he was famous for 4-letter words and scatological references)

"A mind conscious of truth cannot always endure the obstinate and willfully blind enemies of truth."

    Ouch. Others?

The chief modern rival of Christianity is "liberalism." An examination of the teachings of liberalism will show that at every point the liberal movement is in opposition to the Christian message.

My favourite expression is: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." Jim Elliot

Then, "The smallest deed is better than the greatest intention." (forget the source)

And, We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light." Plato

The actor, after reading the 23rd Psalm said, "My friends, I have reached your eyes and ears, but the minister has reached your hearts. The difference is this; I know the 23rd Psalm, but he knows the Shepherd. (unknown source)

    Cheers,

    Jim

"When I first became a Christian, about fourteen years ago, I thought that I could do it on my own, by retiring to my rooms and reading theology, and I wouldn't go to the churches and Gospel Halls;... I disliked very much their hymns, which I considered to be fifth-rate poems set to sixth-rate music. But as I went on I saw the great merit of it. I came up against different people of quite different education, and then gradually my conceit just began peeling off. I realized that the hymns (Which were just sixth rate music) were, nevertheless, being sung with devotion and benefit by an old saint in elastic-side boots in the opposite pew, and then you realize that you aren't fit to clean those boots. It gets you out of your solitary conceit."

-- C.S. Lewis, God in the Dock

"If you look within, you'll have heartaches.
If you look without, you'll have heartbreaks.
If you look up, you'll have blessings."

"If you want to walk on the water...you've got to get out of the boat."

"If it's in your well, it will come up in your bucket." This is a paraphrase of Matthew 13:34. "...For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh."

"I am a creature of a day. I am a spirit come from God, and returning to God. I want to know one thing: the way to heaven. God himself has condescended to teach me the way. He has written it down in a book. Oh, give me that book! At any price give me the book of God. Let me be a man of one book."

"Conscience, that had slept so long, began to awake, and I began to reproach myself with my past life, in which I had so evidently, by uncommon wickedness, provoked the justice of God to lay me under uncommon strokes, and to deal with me in so vindictive a manner"--- Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe.
