i am really liking this "new" song our youth ministry is singing right now. it's really not "new" but it's new to them. it's called "blessed be the name" and I love it. I'll tell you why in a sec. here's the song:

    Blessed Be the Name
    Matt and Beth Redman
    Copyright (C) 2002 Kingsway's Thank You Music

Blessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful,
Where Your streams of abundance flow,
    Blessed be Your name!
Blessed be Your name when I'm found in the desert place,
When I walk through the wilderness,
    Blessed be Your name!
    Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise;
When the darkness closes in, Lord, still I will say:

"Blessed be the name of the Lord! Blessed be Your name!
Blessed be the name of the Lord! Blessed be Your glorious name!"

Blessed be Your name when the sun's shining down on me,
When the world's "all as it should be," blessed be Your name!
Blessed be Your name on the road marked with suffering,
Though there's pain in the offering, blessed be Your name!
    Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise;
When the darkness closes in, Lord, still I will say:

    "Blessed be the name..."

You give and take away, You give and take away,
But my heart will choose to say, "Lord, blessed be Your name!"

i really like this song. it came up in a study of job. no matter what we're going through, God is still God. He's still on the throne, and He still loves us. we should praise no matter what. in habakkuk 3, the Author writes:

no matter what, let's praise Him! He gives and takes away, but He's still almighty God!

i like the old time camp songs. the camp worship songs!

i especially love the "kingdom celebration"

    Kingdom Celebration:

Ay Oh, I will praise Jehovah!
Ay Oh, I will praise my Lord!
Ay Oh, I will praise Jehovah!
Ay Oh, I will praise my Lord!

    Praise Him in the sanctuary
Praise Him for His mighty deeds
With cymbals, trumpets, tambourines and dancing
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

    Chorus
    It's a kingdom celebration!
    Let the high praises ring
We will sing with all creation
    The praises of our King!

    bridge
    Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia mamama
    Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia ay oh
    (repeat 4 times)
    chorus

    ---------
I also love the classic "This little light of mine" - love the extended version of that - dont have the words though... although i do have the rap part to it - during the chorus some of us would sing this at camp:

oh my, Jesus is mine, im gonna let my little light shine
oh my, Jesus is mine, im gonna let my little light shine

    throughout the chorus...
i guess you'd have to hear it in person... cause we made that up at camp...

    God bless! :)

One of my favorites as of late has been "Potter's Hands" sung by Darlene Schzeck and Hillsong:

    Beautiful Lord, wonderful Saviour
I know for sure, all of my days are held in Your hands
    Created into Your perfect plan
You gently call me, into Your presence
Guiding me by, Your Holy Spirit
    Teach me dear Lord
To live all of my life through Your eyes

I'm captured by, Your Holy calling
    Set me apart
I know You're drawing me to Yourself
    Lead me Lord I pray

    Take me, Mould me
    Use me, Fill me
I give my life to the Potter's hands
    Hold me, Guide me
    Lead me, Walk beside me
I give my life to the Potter's hand

MY REASON: Without Jesus i'm nothing more than a lump of dirt...lifeless and useless, with Him all things are possible and i can become a vessel of great worth and value.
It is also a good reminder, according to Isa. 45 that the lump of clay has no say so in what it is to become...it is all up to the Potter.

We love Matt - and the other bands who work with Passion - Charlie Hall, Chris Tomlin and David Crowder Band. We've met Matt and Charlie and they have such hearts for God - and for young people, mostly college students (my DH is a college youth pastor). These are guys who are not in it for the money but for the ministry. Seeing them at Passion '05 was amazing (we missed '06) - and seeing 15,000 college students worshipping as one - it just gives you a glimpse of what heaven is going to be like!

That song has a lot of meaning for us personally. My DH was about to introduce it on Sunday morning and on Friday just before, he fell off of our roof onto the cement patio injuring his foot. It wasn't until 4 weeks after being in the ER that we found out that he didn't just dislocate his foot but he crushed many bones in there and because of the late diagnosis, he's got a permanent disability in that foot. But while we were in the ER - waiting and waiting - we just kept coming back to the fact that God is good and worthy of praise no matter what happens to us. "My heart will CHOOSE to say, "Lord, blessed be your Name".

My absolute favorite worship song right now is Indescribable by Chris Tomlin. God is just so amazing and I think sometimes we forget His awesomeness - how amazing His power is and that there are really no words that can begin to describe Him.

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
    Creation's revealing Your majesty
From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
    All exclaiming

    Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
    You are amazing God
    All powerful, untamable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
    You are amazing God

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
    None can fathom

    Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name
    You are amazing God
    All powerful, untamable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
    You are amazing God
    You are amazing God

    Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
    You are amazing God
    All powerful, untamable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
    You are amazing God
    Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
    You are amazing God
    Incomparable, unchangeable
You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same
    You are amazing God
    You are amazing God

Excellent choice, Annie. I don't like some of Tomlin's music... but some of it is dead-on! This song was written by Laura Story, who I have the deepest respect for as a Christian songwriter. She also used to be a member of the group Silars Bald!

Two of my favorite worship songs are:

Above All – Michael W. Smith
Above all powers above all kings
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began

Above all kingdoms above all thrones
Above all wonders the world has ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure what You're worth

    Crucified laid behind the stone
You lived to die rejected and alone
Like a Rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall and thought of me
    Above all

He Knows My Name – Tommy Walker
    I have a maker
    He formed my heart
    Before even time began
My life was in his hand

    (Chorus)
    He knows my name
    He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

    I have a Father
    He calls me his own
    He'll never leave me
    No matter where I go

I love both of these as they lead me to focus on who God is and how incredibly awesome He is.

    "My Jesus" - Todd Agnew

    Which Jesus do you follow?
    Which Jesus do you serve?
If Ephesians says to imitate Christ
Then why do you look so much like the world?

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the arrogant
So which one do you want to be?

Blessed are the poor in spirit
Or do we pray to be blessed with the wealth of this land
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness
Or do we ache for another taste of this world of shifting sand

Cause my Jesus bled and died for my sins
He spent His time with thieves and sluts and liars
He loved the poor and accosted the rich
So which one do you want to be?

Who is this that you follow
This picture of the American dream
If Jesus was here would you walk right by on the other side or fall down and worship at His holy feet

Pretty blue eyes and curly brown hair and a clear complexion
Is how you see Him as He dies for Your sins
But the Word says He was battered and scarred
Or did you miss that part
Sometimes I doubt we'd recognize Him

Cause my Jesus bled and died
He spent His time with thieves and the least of these
He loved the poor and accosted the comfortable
So which one do you want to be?

Cause my Jesus would never be accepted in my church
The blood and dirt on His feet would stain the carpet
But He reaches for the hurting and despised the proud
I think He'd prefer Beale St. to the stained glass crowd
And I know that He can hear me if I cry out loud

I want to be like my Jesus!
I want to be like my Jesus!

Not a posterchild for American prosperity, but like my Jesus
You see I'm tired of living for success and popularity
I want to be like my Jesus but I'm not sure what that means to be like You Jesus
Cause You said to live like You, love like You but then You died for me
Can I be like You Jesus?
I want to be like my Jesus

I like the lyrics because it tells why we should want to be like Jesus and all the great things he sacraficed for us to be here on Earth today.

Here is my favorite worship song:

    Creed

    Rich Mullins and Beaker
First Peter 3:8-4:11, Second Peter 1:15-21
I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, our Lord
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
    Born of the virgin Mary
    Suffered under Pontius Pilate
He was crucified and dead and buried

And I believe what I believe is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not the invention of any man

I believe that He who suffered was crucified, buried, and dead
He descended into hell and on the third day, rose again
He ascended into Heaven where He sits at God's mighty right hand
    I believe that He's returning
To judge the quick and the dead of the sons of men

And I believe what I believe is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not the invention of any man

I believe it, I believe it
    I believe it
I believe it, I believe it

I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, our Lord
I believe in the Holy Spirit
    One Holy Church
    The communion of Saints
    The forgiveness of sin
    I believe in the resurrection
I believe in a life that never ends

And I believe what I believe is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
I did not make it, no it is making me
I said I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not the invention of any man

    I believe it, I believe
    I believe it, I believe
I believe it, I believe it
I believe it, I believe it
I believe it, I believe it
    I believe it

It's so true. You don't make what you believe; it makes you! The teachings in the Apostle's Creed are not man made, but the truth of God!
Rich sang a lot of good songs about the Christian life.

This one wouldn't be necessarily for congregational worship... but it spoke to me majorly. I continue to support and love Ross's ministry as a worship leader and friend. Check him out at www.rosskingmusic.com .

    Clear the Stage

Clear the stage and set the sound a lights ablaze
If that's the measure you must take to crush the idols.
Jerk the pews and all the decorations too until the congregation's few then have revival.
Tell your friends that this is where the party ends,
Until you're broken for your sins you can't be social.
And seek the Lord and wait for what he has in store,
And know that great is your reward so just be hopeful.

‘Cause you can sing all you want to, yes, you can sing all you want to.
You can sing all you want to, but don’t get me wrong… worship is more than a song.

Take a break from all the plans that you have made
And sit at home alone and wait for God to whisper.
Beg and plead Him open up His mouth and speak,
And pray for real upon your knees until they blister.

Shine the light on every corner of your life until the pride and lust and lies are in the open.
Read the Word and put to test the things you've heard
Until your heart and soul are stirred and rocked and broken.

Anything I put before my God is an idol.
Anything I want with all my heart is an idol.
Anything I can't stop thinking of is an idol.
Anything that I give all my love is an idol.
We must not worship something that's not even worth it,
Clear the stage, make some space for the one who deserves it.

And I can sing all I want to, yes, I can sing all I want to.
I can sing all I want to, and still get it wrong…
‘Cause you can sing all you want to, yes, you can sing all you want to.
You can sing all you want to, but don’t get me wrong… worship is more than a song.

OK, before you think it, let me say that this is not shameless self-promotion. It's just that I couldn't find a song that said what I wanted to say, so I wrote my own. And that's why it constitutes one of my favorites. Call me crazy.

We are here to lift our voices up, to praise our God in one accord,
And we come together to this place to worship the one risen Lord!
The distractions from outside, we lay them all down,
We honor the Father, give our lives for His renown!

Come, let us worship the King,
With all our heart and soul and mind and strength for His glory!
Come, let us lift up His name,
To take His message into all the world that they might know
That He is our God, He is our Lord!

In this world of confusion, this world of fear,
We take comfort in knowing that our God is here!

Come, let us worship the King,
With all our heart and soul and mind and strength for His glory!
Come let us lift up His name,
To take His message into all the world that they might know
That He is our God, He is our Lord!

My Jesus by Todd Agnew is probably the most in your face song i have heard in CCM in a LONG time; and i'm thankful for it.
I'm hoping to have it sung at my current place of service before i leave in a couple of months.

    Lord, Here Am I
Fanny Crosby and John Ness Beck
    Copyright (C) 1984 Beckenhorst Press

    Master, Thou callest, I gladly obey;
Only direct me, and I'll find Thy way.
Teach me the mission appointed for me,
What is my labor and where it shall be.

Master, Thou callest, and this I reply,
"Ready and willing, Lord, here am I."

    Willing, my Savior, to take up the cross;
Willing to suffer reproaches and loss.
    Willing to follow, if Thou will but lead;
Only support me with grace in my need.

Master, Thou callest, and this I reply,
"Ready and willing, Lord, here am I."

    Living or dying, I still would be Thine;
Yet I am mortal while Thou art divine.
    Pardon, whenever I turn from the right;
Pity, and bring me again to the light.

Master, Thou callest, and this I reply,
"Ready and willing, Lord, here am I."

Discovered this hymn in the Baptist Hymnal a few years ago while shuffling through and looking for "new" ones to me. Fell in love with the message, and the music is easily singable. Have taught this song to 2 churches that never heard it, and they fell in love with it too. Works great for a formal invitation to commitment, a missions service, or just as a reminder of our duty to serve our Lord and Master.
