Without posting the lyrics, let's talk about songs for worship. What do you look for in the songs you use or worship with. How do you decide what songs are worth your time and energy? List three or four favorites, and tell us why these minister to you.

"In Christ Alone (My Hope is Found)"
    Stuart Townend/Keith Getty
The entire gospel in one song. I love it. Sound lyrics, and solid melody. Easy to learn for a congregation and they seem to enjoy it as well. A modern hymn.

"Take My Life and Let it Be Consecrated"
    Francis Havergal/Chris Tomlin/Louie Giglio
A newer version of the old hymn text by Havergal, with a new melody and new chorus, "Here am I, all of me. Take my life, it's all for Thee." A good treatment of a solid old song with a message that still stands.

    "Clear the Stage"
    Ross King
A call to lay down all the superfluous trappings of our "modern worship experience," and realize that true worship begins with me, in spirit and in truth. "Anything I put before my God is an idol," and this song reminds us that worship is more than a song.

We call them "hymns", so I hope we are talking about the same thing :)

"In Christ Alone (My Hope is Found)"
    Stuart Townend/Keith Getty
I agree with Joshua's comments on this one.

"Take My Life and Let it Be Consecrated"
    Francis Havergal
I don't know the new version Joshua mentioned, but love Frances Ridley Havergal's words. We sing it to a tune called "Nottingham", originally by Mozart.

"Great is the Gospel of our Glorious God" by Vernon Higham, tune by M. Eddie Evans
This emphasises the great power and grace of our triune God in salvation. A modern hymn.

"O How the Grace of God Amazes me!" by E. T. Sibomana, translated into English by R. Guillebaud, tune by Fred J. Barff
Similar in sentiments to "I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene". Elevates the wonder of our undeserved salvation, and prays for God's help in the battle with sin.

    "Blessed Assurance"
    Fanny Crosby/Phoebe Knapp

    Great hymn of the church.

    "Everlasting God"
    Brenton Brown/Ken Riley
"Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord." I love this song because it helps me remember the latter verses of Isaiah 40. It's great encouragement to me that those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.

    "Honestly"
    Carl Cartee
"Of all that I have, all that I need is You." What a great reminder from a song that prays for brokenness.

I believe you can post portions of a song as long as you can give a link to the site where it comes from. But I don't believe you can post the song in its entirety, especially the more contemporary ones. There are some older hymns where the copyright may have run out.

    Re:worship songs

Guide Me, O Thou, Great Jehovah
    Tarry with Me
The Day is Past and Gone
Jesus left His Home in Glory

These are just of few of the songs we line-out during our service....they are older songs that I on't know who authored.

    Willis

You can find these in some of the songbooks like the Sweet Songster and Thomas Hymnal....I don't know about "Jesus Left His Home in Glory", it may be a little newer than the other three.

I just love "Victory In Jesus". As our choir director said, it's a "stand up and PRAISE" song. We did this one just last Sunday.

    love,

    Sopranette

I Stand Amazed in the Presence

Because I truly do Stand Amazed each and every day in awe of Jesus who died for me, he who shed His Righteous Blood for the remission of my sins so that by grace through faith in Him I might be saved. In thee O Lord do I put my trust, let me never be ashamed, deliver me in thy righteousness. (Psalms 31:1)
