A gun is pretty useless against tyrrany without ammo. Or for protecting yourself against rapists, murderers, and robbers breaking into your home or business.

But never fear - good old fashioned American ingenuity will think of something if we are still made with the same stuff as our forefathers.....it may be black market time....

People sometimes get what they vote for. This time they did. The sad part is a lot of states with large rural populations who hunt went for O'bama [North carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania Colorado, etc] after he dissed rural voters over clinging to God and guns.

But libbies have lost in their battle to ignore the constitution and now they want to side step it. What they do not realize is the American people will not put up with it for to long. The only rounds the military uses that would fit a civilian gun is the .45/cal which they now use 9mm. So to my knowledge, the other shell casings would be useless to civilians.

Anyone know which military weapons use these caliber rounds?

The policy compelled Georgia Arms to cancel all sales of .223 and .308 ammunition, rounds used, respectively, in semi-automatic and deer hunting rifles, until further notice.

I guess I don't see the connection of one to the other...

.45 ACP- 1911A1 same as civilian
9mm- various semi-auto pistols same as civilian
.308- for M1A same for civilian (though not full auto) and some hunting rifles
.223- for M16 type rifle same for civilian (not full auto) and hunting rifles
.300 magnum and .338 Lapua- same for sniping (military) and hunting (civilian), same rifles
.50BMG- again, same rifles but no full auto for civilians
7.62x39- some troops use captured AK-47s, same ammo for civilian semi- auto AKs and SKS (However, most rounds of this type are copper washed steel and are not easily re-loadable. We can get brass cases in the U.S. but these are higher priced)

Most of the AR type semi automatic rifles use .223 and .308 ammunition. Many people reload their own shell casings. For those that don't the reuse of these casings by a company would make the ammo a lot cheaper.

I am not going to debate about the American Revolution in this thread. But the parallels between what this Administration is doing and the events leading to the American Revolution are quite astounding if you look at it from the eyes of history.

If you truly believe that then work hard towards getting people elected you feel will right the ship. I don't think it is appropriate to be suggesting people use violence against our government, and I highly doubt the owner of this site would want a moderator for the site doing so even in the slightest degree.

Or maybe it has something to do with folks overreacting and creating an unexpected shortage. Or how about the ammo companies creating a shortage to raise the price a bit. Why make 5 dollars on two boxes of shells when you can make 10 dollars on one!

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that many civilian and military ammo was exchangeable. I remember when ever we finished on the rifle range we had to police up all the empty shells. I didn't know they were going to civilian ammo. I assumed they were refilled for the military.

I reload most of my rifle and pistol bullets as well as 12 and 20 gauge for my shotguns. After the initial set-up (which is suprisingly inexpensive for cartridges, most of the cost is in the dies for one particular caliber) and after buying the components, my box of ammo comes to about 1/4 to 1/3 of a commercial box of ammo. Check out RCBS reloaders for a good start for rifles and pistol.

The problem is not your lack of knowledge about ammunition. You're no less of a man for that! Besides very few people really are experts in the subject. In fact, the more we learn on any subject the less it seems we know about it!

The problem is that too many people just don't understand the importance of the individual right to bear arms. They are, therefore, a danger to those who do understand because they support politicians who are constantly inventing new schemes to press the attack against that right. That's what's happening right now with the Obamanites. They lost in the Supreme Court last year on a critical point so now they're looking for other ways to keep law abiding citizens from having guns. One way is making ammunition impossible or impractical to attain. Another is by making people carry expensive insurance. Another is by requiring licensing and reporting even to employers and neighbors. They just won't leave it alone. They just won't do their duty of going after criminals who have no respect for any law and who use guns in their criminal acts. It's much easier just to regulate those who will be regulated and pretend it's helping solve the problem of crime. That's the problem!

No, I disagree. I doubt gun owners had anything to do with the decision to destroy fired military cartridge brass. I think this is the usual fear mongering from the right. These are the same people who started lining up to buy more guns since the day Obama was elected so none of this surprises me.

With all the things on Obama's plate, I seriously doubt if he's given your guns any thought.

What? You mean fear mongering from the left who somehow think destroying brass is going to help reduce crime. The right sees this brass as a great source for reloading. I know people who buy it by the case, reload it, and use it for target practice in local and national competition using this source of ammunition. There's nothing like have a good personal arsenal of weapons and ammunition as well as the ability to use it. What we learned in the military and law enforcement is good for a lifetime. The left just sees it as one more way to eliminate guns by eliminating ammunition. They don't want anyone to be armed except, of course, their own protection. It's just dumb thinking on their part!
