Proverbs 26:4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him. 5 Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.

If you answer a 'foolish' question, you're as foolish as the one who asked. Use a silly answer in return to the 'foolish man' to show him how silly he is.

Why is there air? (For balloons of course.)

If a tree falls in a forest ..... ? (Depends if the termites have their hearing aid batteries charged up.)

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? (Are you talking rubber chicken or KFC?)

Knowing the appropriate answer to the words of a fool requires wisdom. We must be very careful not to succumb to his folly in our answer, but if we fail to answer him with wisdom, he may gloat in his own foolishness. The Christian has the advantage in that he has the Holy Spirit to give him the wisdom to give the best possible answer, but if he speaks in his own wisdom, he is no wiser than the fool.

4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Jesus used this method. When He was asked questions designed to make Him look foolish, He turned it around on them.

    Luke 20
21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
24 Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's.
25 And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.

26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

Use one method or the other according to the situation. "Depends on the fool, depends on the folly." Sometimes a soft answer turns away wrath; sometimes it increases it! Some questions must be answered for the benefit of others; some may simply be ignored.

Mark 13:32- But of the day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

my ? is, how can the Son not know, he and the father are one????

Christ the Eternal Son in Heaven knows the day and the hour. But the facts about the day and the hour were not present in His fleshly body.
