When I was in youth ministry, we used to make NCAA bracket predictions just for fun. I would award the most accurate predictor by paying their way to a youth activity. I got at least one half-serious complaint that it was encouraging gambling (or at least behavior that could lead to gambling).

    What say ye?

(BTW, Pete Rose, your opinion doesn't count... [IMG] )

I usually fill them out for fun, then forget about it until it's time fo the final four and then check to see just how bad I did.

I almost always pick Kansas to win it all, and I'm not a big Jayhawk fan.

Could do the same thing by just picking the winner of the final game BEFORE the tournament starts. Not gambling because no money is put up, with just picking the ultimate winner it is simply cheering for your favorite team. No harm in that from what I can see.

I agree. Gambling involves risk. If they aren't risking their own money or anything else, I don't see how it could be considered gambling. Of course if someone in the church was truly offended by it, I would probably stop to avoid causing a controversy. I always fill out a bracket on Yahoo.com each year just to see how little I truly know about college basketball. [IMG] I think I do so poorly because I usually pick the teams I like and refuse to pick Duke to win it all regardless of how good they are. :D

When the brackets come, someone should post the whole shebang and let everyone pick every game. We did that in the college where I taught and had a GIRL win every year.

Get 1 point for each correct in the first round, 2 points for second, 3 for third, 4 for 4th, 5 for final four and 6 points for champion.

I don't have the time to set it up (when the brackets are posted) but sure would make my picks!

It would be up to each person to tally their own score (or a volunteer could print them out - chances are there will only be 10-12 of us participating).

And will there be ANY team from Indiana in the 64? NOT!!

I never win these things either, but always enjoy doing them - when no money is involved. (Not being self-righteous about gambling, I just know that I would lose - so why do it??)

So I agree, let's have brackets posted and then we can all do the picks (and post them) before the first game. Dr. Bob's idea about the point system seems fine, though I am concerned that he knows a bit too much about setting up a pool like this.

Go ACC - look for them to have the most teams in the big dance, though I'm not too sure how many will make it to the S16.
