CBD has a "wow" deal NIV Pitt Minion Reference, French Morocco leather black 1984 edition. The price was too good to pass up so I got one. I will confess that I would rather have goatskin but this is a very nice Bible if you are looking for a small well made Bible. If I see a wow offer for a NKJB or NASB in goatskin I will get one since I'm totally impressed with the leather one I just received.

Again, this Bible is well made and a joy to read. Great addition to my collection. I still think that the best "deal" on a quality refernece Bible is the Foundations NASB Updated reference thinline genuine leather available at around 30 clams w/free shipping from the giant online retailer we all love.

I don't blame you for jumping on that deal. Although I would prefer a different version. :)

What can I say, I love Bibles!

Think of it this way, 50 years from now my kids will have a really nice collectors item, the 1984 NIV packaged by Cambridge. I have inspected Cambridge Bibles in the bookstore and have not been that impressed but the one I have sitting on my shelf is beyond my expectations cool totally!

I have a number of study Bibles in the NIV that are maybe not "valuable" but are hard to find and at some point will be collectors items. About 2 years ago I was given the privledge of taking what ever I wanted (and was left) from a pastors library. I took about 100 books, among them a study Bible that no one wanted but is worth about $350-400 dollars.

Having said that, I'm going to someday, when I see the deal, get a goatskin Cambridge in NASB or NKJV.

My Pitt Minion is the 1984 edition. I would have passed on the deal if it was the 2011.

I have an new Oxford Old Schofield 1917 edition, nice but not in the same league as the Cambridge. I have a Thompson Chain (NIV) hard bound edition, it's a nice Bible, sewned binding, nice wide margin. Too bad it's not cowhide! My only complaint is the red letters of Christ are a strange shade of red!

Not to constantly bash the ESV, but I have a classic reference ESV in genuine leather. It is sewned and all but some of the pages have that wrinkle in the gutter and there is no line separating the center line references which is annoying and the font is weird. The quality of the leather finish is also not as good as the Cambridge or Oxford, more like what you see with nelson Bibles.

But again, it is hard to knock the Foundations NASB in genuine leather thinline, great quality for the price it's my favorite Bible to read!

I recently bought myself a 1984 NIV Pitt-Minion. It's a super Bible, but I do find the print a touch small for my aged eyes.

I'm currently eying this website. http://www.bibles-direct.co.uk/ These are supposed to be the best Bibles in the world. Available in the animal of your chioce!

They are THE best! I have a 400th anniversary KJV in blue with bright red ribbon markers.
It would be cool though if they left the fur on the animal wouldn't it? Angora would be nice.

Well, there is a bump in my Cambridge bliss. I found a major manufacturing flaw in my new Pitt Minion. I emailed customer service at CBD and they say that they are sending me a new copy pronto and PP return for the defective one.

    Really nice Bible though.

I hope you enjoy your new Allan when it arrives. Let us know. I would be tempted to get the same in black however I have in addition to my NIV Pitt Minion (BTW, CBD promptly rplaced my defective Bible) I also have a NASB, the Foundations (In Touch Ministries) Goatskin large size wide margin which is an awsome Bible also. I paid I think about $94.00 for this Bible. It does not have any cross refrences or notes.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the ESV though I have the classic refrence in genuine leather (sewn binding and all), not the nicest workmanship but still good, also a Reformation SB and ESV SB, also a few other utility ESVs which is plenty for a version I don't use.

I will say it again, for the budget minded Bible reader who wants a nice Bible at a low cost it is hard to beat the Foundations NASB thinline in genuine leather. At $30.00 it is a really nice Bible, has all the fine features and is well made.
