Fine with me. Since some conservatives aren't interested in getting another vote on the SCOTUS to overturn Roe v. Wade because the current nominee doesn't meet their style point litmus test, just let the whole conservative coalition split wide apart. I am tired of conservatives who are more interested in churning up political battles than in winning political victories and making progress - even if it be incrementally.

    Ken,

Now that is some interesting speculation. My opinion is that they will support the President and we'll all hold our breaths to watch her performance on the Court. But if Miers goes soft or goes left, they will pounce at election time to differentiate themselves from "consensus nominating". I must say that if either Roberts or Miers move to the middle there will be a lot of conservatives who will feel extremely betrayed. Ken, if that happens, I think--and I hope--that you will likewise feel betrayed. What I mostly hope you're right about, though, is that Miers will indeed be a voice of judicial restraint and will vote to overturn Roe.
