Just for the fun of it. When did you first use email who was your email provider.

    I'll start:

    1995 - Compuserve

My first email was to a friend from Alabama who was then living in Minnesota, and I SHOUTED THE WHOLE EMAIL.

Mine would have been in the late 80's or early 90's I can't remember if my first e-mail account was with GEnie, CompuServe, Prodigy, AOL, or one of the old BBS' that I used to use before the web. [IMG]

Around 1996. It was with Juno, through a free e-mail only dial-up account. Text only, no attachments.

I still have some of them saved on our old Packard Bell.

I don't remember exactly, but it was about 10-12 years ago. I used a state-provided service briefly and then AOL — with my speedy 2400-baud external modem.

Back in the '80s, we had a portable TRS-80 that communicated directly with the office with patch cords if you were lucky; if you were unlucky, you had to use those horrible acoustic couplers that fit on the phone receiver.

We had Prodigy first. Had to pay long distance to get it. Then switched to a local carrier called Gulftel. It was rinky-dink. Then used Earthlink for about 7 years until last month when we swapped to AOL.

The File Shop. It must have been ~1994 or 95 It was a BBS that had a login to tell it if you were going into the BBS or using Winsock.

Ah, winsock, I'm so glad those days are over.

I had Earthlink for years and loved it; I would never have switched (especially to AOL) had Earthlink offered DSL here.

Retired Navy here, used email in 80's via military computers.

First home online experience was in 97, started with AOL and have stayed with them since, have never had a problem with them.

    TaterTot,

I left AOL for the same reason.

That, and I was constantly being dropped by the AOL network.

Word of advice: Log on to AOL, minimize it, launch a differnet browser, and use it to surf. i found that I didn't get dropped as often that way.

Always use some type of web-mail (Yahoo, MyWay, Gmail) instead of your ISP address. It cuts down on the spam, as they can be disposable.

My first email was an internal mainframe system for work.

First internet connect account was with sinnfree (sinnissippi valley freenet) a local text only free connection to the net in 1995.
