FLASHBACK: Democrats Tried To Block Thousands Of Vietnam War Refugees, Including Orphans

Despite today’s outrage over President Donald Trump’s refugee executive order, many liberals in 1975 were part of a chorus of big name Democrats who refused to accept any Vietnamese refugees when millions were trying to escape South Vietnam as it fell to the communists.

They even opposed orphans.

The group, led by California’s Gov. Jerry Brown, included such liberal luminaries as Delaware’s Democratic Sen. Joe Biden, former presidential “peace candidate” George McGovern, and New York Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman.

The Los Angeles Times reported Brown even attempted to prevent planes carrying Vietnamese refugees from landing at Travis Air Force Base outside San Francisco. About 500 people were arriving each day and eventually 131,000 arrived in the United States between 1975 and 1977.

So we brought in over 130,000 refugees back then from a war torn country we were currently engaged with? Lol. Way to make a point Rev.

This constant insecure partisan scoreboard keeping is ridiculous. We have a real and current issue facing us and we got Mitch who is so insecure that he is dredging up a 40 year old scenario to avoid owning the one staring us right in the face.

Democrat President Franklin Roosevelt refused to allow Jewish refugees fleeing from Nazi Germany, and sent them back to Germany where many of them (estimated at 25%) died in the Nazi gas chambers.

That same Democrat President then imprisoned 120,000 law abiding citizens for the only "crime" of being of Japanese descent. 65% of which were native born American citizens.

President Jimmy Carter banned immigration from Iran, and even deported some.
Carter’s attorney general, Benjamin Civiletti, on Nov. 13, 1979, ordered all Iranians with student visas to report to U.S. immigration officials by Dec. 14 or else face deportation. Civiletti was acting on a Nov. 10 order from Carter.

An Immigration and Naturalization Service spokesman reported that nearly 60,000 students had registered as required, 430 had been deported and 5,000 had left voluntarily.

President Obama banned immigration from Iraq for 6 months in 2011.

Yes, that was the "America First" policy.

And he is rewriting history. There were lots of refugees from Vietnam who came here. We had one live with us for a year. I had eight or nine in the International Sunday School class I taught. I worked with several who were engineers and programmers. They also came from Cambodia. I worked with a Cambodian engineer.

The week before Saigon fell, 15,000 people left on scheduled flights followed by an additional 80,000 also evacuated by air. The last group was carried on U.S. Navy ships.[18]During the spring of 1975 125,000 people left South Vietnam, followed by more than 5,000 in 1976-1977

From 1978 to 1982, 280,500 Vietnamese refugees were admitted to the U.S

OH, then issue an apology for all the stuff for which Bush was accused.
Should I go through the archives and find yours (if any of course, I don't want to rush to judgment).

Also thank you for the admission to the grave and unamerican sins of Democrat presidents FD Roosevelt, Jimmy Carter and Obama.

But are current sins an excuse to express hated for a president for doing the same things previous ones did without such hartred?

I have not expressed hatred. I have expressed displeasure of his sins, his lieing, his sinful affairs and now his hateful actions. I feel sorry for him. He is a most pitable person.

Did you notice his lie about the computer at Delta Airlines causing the problems at airports over the weekend. Trump is even outdoing Trump with that one.

LOL you would probably say you aren't judging him, either.

Don't forget what Harry Truman ordered for Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

In his defense - It was war, it ended the war.
