Lots of threads on Black History. Many on the War of Northern Aggression. In an email to my son-in-law (history prof at an ifb college) he mentioned his focus on 1920-1930's. My daughter (now not teaching as she is having grandbabies!!) loves early pre-Tudor England.

There's a LOT of various interests out there!

What is YOUR FAVORITE era of history or type of history where your interest/focus resides?

I love BIBLICAL HISTORY and MILITARY HISTORY, with a special emphasis, of course, on the late great unpleasantness.

    In my case.
Church history. Ironically I love those movements within christianity I disagree with and usually find the history of the movements on my 'own' side boring. I can write a reasonably accurate mini-biography of pope Julius II from memory and I barely know who John Smyth is.

Art history. Love Gebruikskunst (=art that is created to be used for a purpose), don't like art that just is.

History of daily life. I don't care how cool general Lee was on the battlefield, I want to know if mrs. Lee used urine to bleach general lee's white clothing.

Then I suppose you wouldn't be interested in the vital importance of night soil management in East Asian agricultural history ... :D

Let's see. Must try to focus.

American history, with emphasis on the Civil War, Baptist history, Russian history, English history, and a smattering of East Asian and Byzantine history.

Ancient history, mostly, although living in Colorado I'm beginning to develop an interest in western lore. I've been reading a book on Lewis and Clark recently.

I love to study human conflict, not only in its military aspect, but also from the political and cultural perspective.

I am simply a history nut. All things possess history, thus all things facinate me. I am partial to Baptist History but I am not picky...not particularly when it comes to history.

I am particularly interested in ancient Britain, the Middle Ages in Europe, and World War I.
World War I fascinates me because it really led to modern times, a la the book by Paul Johnson of that title.
I am interested in the early church councils that led to the great creeds.

    1) World War II.

    2) History of pseudo-archaeology (and the histories generated by pseudo-archaeology).

    3) History of cultural change (think James Burke's "Connections"). Especially where science or technology is involved.

    4) Victorian social history.

    5) Recently, patristics and other early church history. In particular, the period where the Church as a canonical and catholic entity was separating itself from the gnostics.

I confess my ignorance. I know what "pseudo" means, and I know what archaeology is, but I've never heard of the field of pseudo-archaeology. What is it?

My main interests are ancient history and church history. I've never been fascinated by American history (too recent, I guess).

Since I teach this stuff, I suppose I should be specific:

    1. History of the development of democracy in England, then the US.

    2. The History of War--particularly find it instructive that The Art of War, by Sun Tzu, is still fresh and very useful 2500 years after it was first penned.

    3. The History of the 20th century, including:

    a. World War I, Part 1--1914-1918

    b. World War I, Part II--The Russian
    Revolution

    c. World War I, Part III--commonly known as
    WW II

    d. World War I, Part IV--the Cold War,
    including the Chinese Revolution, Korea,
    Vietnam, etc.

    e. World War I, Part V (still ongoing)--the
whole Middle East terrorist mess, which was
created by T.E. Lawrence, Lord Balfour, et.
    al.

    4. Church history--should be required reading for every believer.

    5. And finally, the history of the Federation and the Klingon Empire--- he he he he he he , not really.
