Forgive me, Mac Brothers, for I have sinned!

I recently purchased a used Windows  laptop for my wife. She needs to have Word 2003 for a word processing class at the community college, and my ancient 10 year old Mac G3 just won't do the trick.

I got a good deal [$100.00] on a fairly new, seldom used Gateway 1100 series 15" laptop, with a DVD-rw drive, and Windows XP home edition. Finally figured out how to access my DSL modem/router with it.

I hear that openoffice.org has a program that should do what she needs. Will try that first.

Oh, the sacrifices one makes for his wife!

I got my wife a new vista laptop a few months ago. She had to have one that day and we did not have the money to buy a new mac. We have already sold it though and we are getting a Mac laptop now :)

Our main system is a mac mini.

Ah you have seen truth and turned to the light side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Open office is a nice suite though has some limitations when compared to Word from what I hear. There is another that started out with WinCE but has a desktop version http://www.softmaker.de/ MS Office may be required for the class however so check.

I used to use Open Office. I liked it and never had problems with it.

I use Apple's iWork now but I still have the mac version of Open Office installed.

I used Open Office on both Windows and Linux.

It has Microsoft Office on it, but the word processor does not do everything that the course textbook CD requires.

My new vista rig came with Works but college profs consider that somewhere around "notepad" quality

There was a version or two of Works that had Word as the word processor. I used it for several years till the wife needed a new office suite and I took her old one.

If you only knew the power of the Dark Side.

You have only begun to discover your power.
