Fornication

Are they both single and never married? OK. Some pastors ask that they separate physically for a while.

Are they divorced from other people? That truly depends on the circumstances.

I would help any couple "do right". Whether Christians or not, divorced or not, legal or not, if a couple came to me wanting to be married and NOT just shack up or casual no-commitment relationship, I would do all I could to get them married.

That day. Private. NOT glorifying their conduct or past, but for their own good, society's good, family's good. Do what is right. Step one is admit what is now is WRONG and step two, correct it.

Should a pastor marry a couple who are living in fornication?

Not until the sin of their fornication is addressed biblically.

And is a couple obliged to marry simply because they've been fornicating together for a long time? I don't see any biblical ground for such a view.

Their willingness to be in such a circumstance together indicates to me that they are ill-prepared to be married.

First off why would they want to be married by a preacher? Just go find a justice of the peace. Secondly why would a preacher want to marry them? If they start attending church all they are going to do is bring judgment on that church if their sin is not dealt with. If they are already attending, then the pastor has clearly failed in preaching about the sin of fornication and if already members he is guilty of not doing church discipline. Run from that church!
Now what if they are really broken what they have been doing. I would suggest that they stand before the church and confess their brokenness (no excuses) and then the pastor could marry them, and they could join the fellowship.

I’m sorry, are they members already of the church…am I missing some important point?

How about the question swirling qround Pastor Joel Webbon on X. He was a church planter in 2010 and had a 10 month fornication relationship with a woman. He confessed and said he is still qualified. He never stepped down.

Here is the thread.

He is popular on the web. His church plant was with Acts 29 a Calvinist group. I think he's Refomred now.

Should a pastor marry a couple who are living in fornication?

Some years ago in our church (IFB) a couple who were both previously divorced and later became members of the church, began dating. After a year or so they went to our Pastor and asked if he would marry them in the church.

The Pastor had a long, behind the door conversation with both over a period of time. The end result, they were married by our associate Pastor outside the church.

I don't know all the details of what the circumstances were (none of my business), but that was the decision of our Pastor. They're a great couple and love the Lord, still faithful to the church.

There was the recent Reformed teacher and pastor/slashed theologian who came clean, was carrying on with a student in a wring fashion, finally all way to sexual relationship, but he confessed came fully clean and agreed to step down and knows will never be allowed to pastor or teach again. Godly repentance here, as he knew was wring, no more covering up, and knows lost His calling, unlike all others who seem to want to continue in it, as if God "excuses them" die to them being "used by God so much"

This case is a lot more sordid than that. According to the OP explanation on another thread.
