Now I could take exception to comments about the French. My mother was French Canadian, her grand parents were from France. That's ok, I'm also German and Scotch. So it dosen't bother me.

The real reason Germany lost the war? They had problems with heat in their submarines. They decided to put screen doors on the subs. Instead of making a prototype and testing it. They refitted all subs with screen doors at the same time. They had several drydocks in their shipyard which enabled them to do all refitting at the same time.

Why does a Scots man wear pantyhose under his kilt in the winter ?

My Scottish ancestors were from the MacDonald Clan, that means my tartan is of that clans color and my kilt as well.

Now lads and lasses, ye have learned a wee bit of history from an old Scot.

 

The French supplied money and troops to fight the red coats when America was gaining her independence. (Didn't any of you see "The Patriot?" LOL)

The French also gave us the Lady standing in New York Harbor.

The French rescued missionaries (including Baptist missionaries) and international school children caught in the middle of a civil war in the Ivory Coast (about 1-2 years ago).

I heard a US general state the French are fierce warriors and have a strong military and he is proud to fight alongside French soldiers.

The French work with US intelligence behind the scenes.

The French people are in a national identity crisis right now.

I feel sorry for the French and am thankful for the ways the French assist America.

My boycott on French goods lasted for a few months, but I'm back to buying Yoplait yogurt (a French owned company) and Maybelline eyeliner (another French owned company). And I do like Grey Poupon from time to time on ham and rye.

I actually missed the listing of the French invasion of England by William the Conquerer in 1066 in that link.

 

Our youngest son has served as a missionary in Bourg D Oisans, France (in the Alps). Bourg D Oisans is French for "Camp of the Peaks", his mission agency is Greater Europe Missions. He served a short term, 3 months in 1996, then an internship, 9 months in 1999 for part of his college curriculum.

The camps purpose is out reach to the French, they are difficult to reach because of their beliefs.

I am torn between respecting the French for remaining independent and resenting them for being ingrates.

LE, The French were good allies until we took over the role of "senior partner". Since then, they seem to take pleasure in poking us in the eye just to show us they aren't subordinate.

I remember how warm and fuzzy they were with the Soviets during the 80's... and how nervous that made the West Germans.... ah, we didn't know how good we had it in the Cold War when most of the lines of division were much clearer.

 

I feel the same way. I think the French get picked on a little too easily. But I always appreciate amusing humor.

Now, kindly pass me the Grey Poupon.

 

I am grateful that France is the only nation on earth who acts in her best economic interest.

I am glad that my country (the USA for those who don't know me ) never acts that way.

 

One phrase that always irked me was when someone swore and said"excuse my French". So if thats true then one nationality would be known for making stupid statements. Another for not using proper grammar.
Another for taking words out of context. Another for asking embarassing questions.
