In effect the reasoning is that there is no such thing as a "private citizen" where free speech is concerned, unless you are unemployed OR your employment is a secret!The school countered that everyone knows she works for the university, so it paints a negative picture in terms of diversity.
"[Dixon] said that somebody's sexual preference does not rise to the level of a civil right, like an immutable characteristic like sex or skin color. And she believed that that was something important for her to speak out about as a private citizen on a matter of public concern," Rooney points out.
The Law Center wants Dixon reinstated and may seek damages.

The president of the school informed Dixon that her biblical view does not conform to the university's policy of diversity. According to the pastor, the school's has a liberal policy toward homosexuality --
