"One question: what good have people and their religions done for nature throughout the history of mankind?"
Those who have used and abused Christianity will suffer for it, but Christianity has done much for the world. Indeed, much of what is good in society has been because of Christianity. In the beginning, all of our laws were based on the Bible. Many inventions have also been the result of Judaism. One must look at all of the history, not just at the abusers. I am sure other faiths have contributed in various ways, but the abusers of those faiths have made people find them unappealing.
As to nature, we were put into a garden to tend it in the beginning. One very good definition of righteousness is cooperating with God and His created reality thus we are to be caretakers of the planet. Much of what we see is a corporate or emotional Christianity not what Jesus started hence much waste and abuse.
The American flag has been used for great things and not so great things. It is who held it at the time that is responsible, not the flag. Jesus is Whom we need to seek especially in this time of apostasy that was prophesied to happen. We are created by God and until we return to Him our lives are not going to function in the world at our best because we are flawed by sin.
Communism is atheistic and has perpetrated some of the most horrible atrocities since its inception. Thus no religion is not good at all either.
We rebelled against God wanting to be our own gods and hence we got what we wanted, but are not happy with what we got, but we refuse the only doorway back to Him. So, there is Hell on earth and we are destroying an already dying planet that will one day be consumed by fire and a new one created. Nature will be renewed. May you find God who created the planet.
