g:\ not accessible - improper function

    Windows XP. CD drive g, CD/DVD drive f. Can't burn or drag f: to g:. g is inaccessible. Tried using Roxio. f: said files not found, but g: now shows 32mg info, 700mg free, but there is nothing there when "view files." All I wanna do is copy f: to g: or vice-versa, but both drives are acting up. They used to work! What has happened? I've checked device manager, run the trouble shooter, run scandisk............

    Assuming you have powered down and restarted:

    start\control panel\system\hardware tab\device manager and see if there are any yellow/red flags that might give you some information.

    If all else fails go to the cd drive in device manager and uninstall the driver and follow directions, choose automatic install when it gets there. Then do the same with the cd/dvd and see if things work.

    Well, brothers, it worked! I tried the device manager thing before trying to reseat the cables, and it worked! Thanks to both of you for your insights. I'll remember the IDE cables for sure!
