I live in a small town, where the game, Taipae, is
not even available; also, my access to any reliable
computer sites is very limited by my computer's
capacity. In trying to find the tiles to play Taipae,
I noticed that they are the same as Mah Jongg
tiles, except that Mah Jongg has four extra tiles, so
I bought the only Mah Jongg game I found in this
town, hoping to find the instructions for Taipae in
Hoyle's or on the internet. So far, I have found
    nothing.

What I have found, however, are very limited
instructions for playing Mah Jongg, and I find I
would likely prefer that game even more than
    Taipae.

Is anyone familiar with these games, who could
give me further information on them (the real
games, not the ones played on a computer)? I
need further information for both Taipae and Mah
Jongg. My family is anticipating any information,
because we all want to learn these games.

    Thank you!

Oh, Abiyah! I wish I could help you, but I've never played either game. The only thing I know about Mah-Jongg is that Parker Brothers once sold sets, complete with clothing, screens and other sundries that didn't sell very well. Oh, and that my old roommate tried to get us to play when he came back from China - we didn't.

    :(

Clothing and screens? How elaborate! Wow, I
am amazed!! I know it was sold in the States in
the '20s and '30s, but I had no idea!

I have put together what I could glean from the
Internet, and Monday, I am picking up a couple
books from the library which may be helpful.
From what I have gotten so far, I find the game
to be quite fascinating, but we are not wearing
special clothing to play it. 8o) We have also
recreated the rules in order to make it a non-
gambling game, because my family does not
gamble, and we would no even know how to
    begin.

Sso far, I love the game! We are playing the so-
called ancient Hong Kong style, with all its
"twittering of the sparrows," walls, and winds.
My husband and I both enjoying Taipai as well.

Next time you get a chance, you should try it!

    Thank you!

I love mah jongg. I've only played it on computer, I first found it on line to play and now have two mah jongg games. Got my mom hooked, whenever she is over she wants to play.
Wish I could help. Have you tried ebay? I get most everything there.

Hi! My daughter also plays Mah Jong on the
computer, but apparently, it is totally different
from the real-life tile-game. Regardless, she is
hooked. I have not seen it on computer, but I do
have Taipai on computer. SInce I cannot find the
real rules for it, I use the computer rules for the
    real-tiles-game.

I have to admit that I do nno buy anything over the
computer, no mater how desparately I want it. I
place little info out there on tge Internet. Some is
out there anyway, I know, but not credit cards! I
fear credit and what it can do to people. 8o)

I don't even have a credit card. For places like ebay, most people take maony order. And it's not just individuals who sell on ebay, many companies sell there, like wal mart, sears, manufactures.

Somewhere I have a computer version of Taipae - and I enjoyed playing it. I play mostly Spider Solitaire now.
