WASHINGTON - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday she might be willing to garnish the wages of workers who refuse to buy health insurance to achieve coverage for all Americans.

Enforcement is required to achieve coverage. You all are acting like this is tantamount to the Gulags. If you have health insurance, guess what? You have nothing to worry about, so quit complaining.

I assure you, I would LOVE to have my wages garnished to be able to get good health insurance for my family.

The problem is who will determine what "good insurance" is. What do you do if you are insured for something you dont want.?

Whats next, universal vehicle insurance, universal pet insurance,...

This is one possibility the democrats have come up with; there are others.

What is important is that we have universal health care, and I think the democrats, when elected, will do what they can to bring this to pass.

Garnishing means you are forcing someone to do what is against their will. If it was the will of all people there would be no need for garnishment. This goes against the very spirit and principles of freedom this country was founded on. It is unamerican.

That's a horrible slippery slope fallacy. And, yes, everyone must have car insurance if they drive. I'm 100% in favor of that. I'm in favor of yanking people's Driver's Licenses that don't keep insurance.

Pet insurance? Come on. No one is proposing that.

There is a fundamental difference between health care and vet care.

I will say this. I'd love the opportunity to opt into a health plan like the federal government employees have. I don't mind paying for it. The problem is that in free market that conservatives worship only the very healthy can get anything decent in terms of coverage outside of a group plan.

We all have to do things we don't want to do.

I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to register my family's two cars.

I personally don't want to pay taxes for the war in Iraq. Did anyone ask me? Can I "opt out"?

We require children to be immunized because it is for the public good. This situation is similar.

One thing we all know is that our current health care system is not sustainable.

I would like to see health insurance divorced from employment. It would greatly improve worker mobility if this is accomplished.

Then don't drive. You have a choice.

Exactly how many dollars came out of your pocket in taxes went to the war in Iraq?

Children only have to be immunized if they go to public schools. And no one's wages get garnished. There are options even in this case.

Universal Health Care is a complete failure in Canada and in Europe. People do not receive any better care and in most cases it is far worse. Why Communists in this country are convinced they can do it better is beyond me except that it is equvilent to alcoholism or any other addiction. They keep doing the same thing expecting different results each time. By the way that is refered to as insanity.Communism really is an addiction that needs rehabilitation.

The problem is dishonest people faking injuries and looking for big payouts in workers comp. It is also troubled by illegal criminal aliens who suck up medical on our die and kill hospitals. The many law suits that raise doctors insurance rates which are very unrealistic. The instability is not the health care system. It is the generous settlements insurance companies are forced to pay out on false lawsuits and workers comp claims. As well as 20 million liabilities who need to go home and get their own health care.

You lose credibility when you call them communists. They aren't communists just like you aren't a fascist.

You're ok with a world where people go uninsured and can't get medical treatment. I'm not. (And don't pull the whole "You can get treatment" card. No one is obligated to take a patient except in an immediate emergency.)

I'd much rather force people to get health insurance than to force people to remain in a system where they can't get insured.

It's not just illegal immigrants. When you don't have insurance, often the only place you can go is the emergency room. And you put off medical treatment until the problem is much worse. If we could get these uninsured people into a clinic where they don't have to walk in with a 100 dollar bill to get treatment, they wouldn't strain the ERs, and we could cut costs by treating a disease early. There simply aren't enough free clinics or low-income clinics out there. Additionally, good luck on finding a specialist.

    http://www.nchc.org/facts/cost.shtml

In 2005, we spent 16% of the GDP on health care.

"In 2006, employer health insurance premiums increased by 7.7 percent – two times the rate of inflation. "

"Health care spending accounted for 10.9 percent of the GDP in Switzerland, 10.7 percent in Germany, 9.7 percent in Canada and 9.5 percent in France, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development ."

"Since 2000, employment-based health insurance premiums have increased 87 percent, compared to cumulative inflation of 18 percent and cumulative wage growth of 20 percent during the same period ."

    ----------

Do you honestly think that all of this can be reduced to lawsuits, faked injuries, and immigration?

If you do, I respectfully submit to you that you are living in a dream world.

    $100.00 a week comes out of my paycheck for my medical care. I have three plans to choose from and I chose the middle of the three plans. So if the Democrats win I can have 100 extra dollars a week in my check and opt for the government plan and get "free" health care? Hey I'm starting to like Hillary. {sarcasm}

Universal Health care is a communist agenda. Billary has a history with Marxism. My credibility is quite in tact.

As far as being uninsured and having trouble getting health care, been there done that. However you have put words in my mouth. I never said I was ok with it. i would appreciate you refraining from this. It is a fasle argument that universal health care is the only way to address this. And just to be redundant. Universal health care has never proven effective. It is a failure. It doesn't work. It will not change the current problem of people getting medical help.

What government program have you ever seen that did not suffer cutbacks? There are none. Canada and Europe are seeing these types of cutbacks. Again attempting the same behavior expecting different results is insane.

Really? While you are looking up statistics look up how many of the things I mentioned occur every year. And then look up the costs. Please do not suggest I have "reduced" the situation as if these occurences are few and far between when you do not know the real impact from them. Hospitals in California by the way have had to be shut down in recent times. Do you know why?

Illegal immigrants. But that's only part of the equation. Hospitals in Wisconsin aren't going to experience mass deficits because of illegals.

I'm not denying that it's an issue, but I'd rather see them made legal so they can have their wages garnished. How about that?

I know that it's a factor, but even if you remove those factors, the system we have is unsustainable.

What about the guy barely making ends meet and then taking away more of his money. That stinks, and should be illegal.
