I havent found this topic here anywhere, so I thought I'd bring it up.
I used to be blessed by Gene Scotts teaching on television. It was quite rich and edifying. I know he smoked a cigar when preaching, but that was never a big deal as far as I am concerned. From what I understand, many or the great names of the past were cigar smokers. He was unusual in some other ways, but I have always believed that God can use the "different" types sometimes more effectively than the "straight and narrow" types.
(He prophesied through a Donkey once, so that gives God a lot of room to work with, imo!
)
Now he has passed on and his wife has taken over as "Pastor". That too does not bother me much as women were in positions of authority pastorally in the new testament times, and can be as excellant a teacher as any man can. From what I have read she was once a porn actress or something, but if Christ has granted her new life, then she is a "new creation" now and the old has passed away.
Her teaching, from what I have heard, is quite good. VERY good as a matter of fact.
From the times I have watched I dont recall either of them engaging in the continual practice of begging for people to send....$$$$$....like some do. They are not just a TV ministry. They also have a gathering place for their services. I believe an old converted theater in Los Angeles.
But....I dont understand the practice however, under Gene Scott and now Melissa Scott, of not having a "whosoever will may come" attitude toward the services. From what I have heard you need a "ticket" (free, I believe) or some kind of "permission" to attend the services in person.
THAT just doesnt "ring" right to me. That one sort of troubles me.
Anyway, I was just wondering what you all here think of that particular ministry.
The teaching, or anything else.
Thanks.
