OK...the county is in a state that borders Canada. That narrows it down a bit.

Nope. It's an actual county. The book originated in the Eastern U.S., but the county is in the West. . .

It's in a western state with a very small Canadian boarder.

I believe California is named after a fictional thingy, yeah I know it is a state but I deserve a chocolate fish for knowing that.
