George Floyd mural in north Toledo reduced to rubble after being struck by lightning
A north Toledo mural has been reduced to rubble after it was reportedly struck by lightning Tuesday.

Toledo Fire and Rescue responded to the scene at Summit and Lagrange Streets, where a large mural dedicated to George Floyd — who was killed by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin last year — had collapsed.

The piece was created by Toledo artist David Ross just about one year ago. He said the artwork stands as a memorial and reminder to never forget what happened that day in May of 2020.

A witness who saw the wall fall told TFRD they had seen a lightning bolt strike the building. The department later confirmed the strike to be the cause of the collapse.

Wasn't Floyd a reformed criminal who was active in his church and in charitable causes?

After Floyd's release, he became more involved with Resurrection Houston, a Christian church and ministry, where he mentored young men and posted anti-violence videos to social media.[9][15][41][35] He delivered meals to senior citizens and volunteered with other projects, such as the Angel By Nature Foundation, a charity founded by rapper Trae tha Truth.[42] Later he became involved with a ministry that brought men from the Third Ward to Minnesota in a church-work program with drug rehabilitation and job placement services.[15] A friend of Floyd acknowledged that Floyd "had made some mistakes that cost him some years of his life," but that he had been turning his life around through religion.[35]

That's at least twice with that comment. What precludes an active criminal from appearing "reformed" and being "active in his church and in charitable causes?" Answer: Nothing.

In Floyd's case, there doesn't seem to be any connection between the incidents that led up to his death and your cited description of him. He does, however, appear to have been hanging out with his drug dealer, ingesting illegal substances, and passing counterfeit money prior to his violently resisting arrest.

He was a criminal (not reformed, but no recent history of being violent....so maybe partially reformed). He was high, had illegal drugs and was passing fake money (I don't know if he knew the cash was counterfeit).

He was murdered by a police officer (probably neglect rather than pre-meditation, but he did not deserve to die for being on drugs, carrying drugs, and committing a non-violent felony).

He is probably the worst symbol of a cause for police reform as there are innocent people who have been victims of excessive force and social issues. But he was a tool when a tool was needed.

If he had not over dosed, he would still be alive.

The jury said he was guilty - Had I been on that jury - I probably would have voted not guilty.

This has more to do with God hating Ohio than anything else... [emoji16]

So do you think it was a deliberate act made to make people to think it was lighting?
A Yahoo report says "A lightning strike, disrepair, and vandalism have all been pointed at as the possible culprit." The same report says that there are witnesses who claimed to see it struck by lightning, and that channel 13abc's Doppler radar showed there was a lightning strike at around 4:30 p.m. -- the same time witnesses were saying they saw the strike.

Honestly, my first though was that that must have been an act of God. But then I posted otherwise anyway.
Witnesses say lightning struck. It could be that insurance is right about this particular incident, as in "Somebody" targeted a portion of that mural. It certainly bears a striking resemblance to such, but I have no inside info.
