In the early days of the Country is not uncommon for a President to take on another goverment job. ie John Q Adams and Tyler served in Congress

What would you think if George Bush was elected to Congress in 2008?

Pity the congressional district where there might be enough votes to elect him.

The days of former presidents serving in Congress after their presidency are pretty much over. Their role as a former president looms larger and more important than stepping down and choosing to go into the Congress.

Bush would have to search for a congressional district where he could get enough votes to be elected, and I would think that might not be as easy a task as one might think.

If it is the will of a Congressional District, then so be it. No problem.

Imagine this scenario: Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and George W. Bush --all elected to Congress. Wouldn't it be great to have them on the same committee? :D

    There's a joke there somewhere . . .

"So, what do you call Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and George W. Bush thrown to the bottom of the ocean?" Answer: A good start.

or maybe one that starts out....

"Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and George W. Bush all die and show up at the pearly gates at the same time." There are a million variations on the story from there. :)

Bill Clinton & George Bush 1 have allready proved they can work together, when W sent them to raise funds for tsunami relief. Clinton even showed the senior some respect, when he let him take the bed, & he slept on the floor.

Retirement was the rule even in the early days; seeking another office was the exception.

Adams did indeed serve in Congress, but he was an Adams. Tyler essentially retired from politics until he chaired the Washington Peace Convention in 1861 and was chosen for the provisional Confederate Congress, then elected to the Confederate Congress but died before he could attend.

Taft was appointed chief justice after his defeat, but that was the job he had always wanted anyway.

Jack is right: The modern presidency (now that the government pays for staff and each president is dedicated to burnishing his legacy through presidential libraries) is a full-time job in itself — and not one you have to be re-elected to.

Let's not forget our 17th President--you know, the first one to be impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives.

After missing being declared guilty by the wide margin of one vote in the U.S. Senate in 1868, Andrew Johnson (once a Democrat U.S. Senator himself) served out the remainder of what was originally intended to be Abraham Lincoln's second term.

After leaving Washington D.C. in March, 1869, Mr. Johnson then returned to his home state of Tennessee.

However, in 1875, Mr. Johnson returned to the Capitol where he served for the remainder of his life in that same body where only seven years earlier almost removed him as our Chief Executive.

That's right, Mr. Johnson died while serving as a U.S. Senator from Tennessee.

George Bush has his eyes set on defeating Bill Clinton as the successor to the United Nations. He will win and will in essence be the false prophet for the anti-christ Condezza Rice when she wins the 2008 bid for President. Mark my words here.

I'll bet you $500,000 that it doesn't happen as you describe. We'll each deposit $500,000 in a bank selected by a third party who doesn't know either of us. Agreed?

What do you think when politicians run for president and hedge their bets by holding on to their senate seats like Leiberman and Kerry.
