Haynesworth was in and out of Coach Fulmer's doghouse at UT for being Haynesworth. He's been worse as a Titan. As a Titan fan, I think he needs some serious penalizing. Fisher and/or the NFL are going to have to mete out something serious.

I agree. This is an awful situation, no room whatsoever for this type of thing in football. I think he should be suspended without pay for the remainder of the season.

What Haynesworth did was assault. He should be arrested, prosecuted, and Gurode should take legal action against him.

I like what Jeff Fisher told Parcells about the incident, that he was outraged by it, and that if the league didn't come down hard on Haynesworth, he would. It wouldn't surprise me if Fisher cut him for it.

Haynesworth has been suspended without pay for five games. That's too lenient.

I believe Scott Fujita should be punished for his hit on Steve Smith yesterday. Smith did not have the ball and the replay I saw made it appear that Fujita went right for Smith's injured knee.

I agree it was too lenient.

I saw the Fujita hit too. It did look bad. I did hear a report that he says he tripped and caused him to fall into Smith. I am sure the league will try to sort it out.

While the suspension was lenient, the $ he will lose is not ($500,000). He still should be prosecuted, IMHO.

Prosecuting? Heck, you could get prosecuted for making a tackle if you do it on Main Street. Let's not get too carried away.
I only saw one angle. Didn't look like a trip. I'd like to see it again to be sure.

Deliberately stomping on a man's face (while he was NOT wearing a helmet) with 1" metal cleats is assault. You try this with anyone on Main St. and tell me if you get arrested.

    The difference:

Tackling someone is a normal part of football.

Stomping on someone's face with your cleats is not part of football.

I would have no problem if he is prosecuted. I heard a report on ESPN saying that the police has said they will pursue this if the Cowboy player wants to press charges.

I agree. He deliberately removed his helmet by dragging his cleats across the face mask, and then stomped on his bare face with the cleats requiring the player to receive 30 stitches. He's also suffering from blurry vision. Frankly, I'm surprised his didn't get a major eye injury.

I think he should be out at least the entire season, if not out of the NFL.

Prosecuted and cut permanantly from the NFL.
That would be my call.... And I like the Titans...

Imagine if I didn't like the Titans?

When a player disgraces himself, his team, and the sport there should be no room for that player.

5 games? That's like saying, "now, now, you know what you did was wrong, and we don't want you to do it again, OK?"

Hayneswoth needs to lose more than $500,000. He, not the Cowboys, needs to pay the medical costs of the player whose face he stomped as well as punitive damages, including pain and suffering. I think that five games is too lenient.

This seems to be the NFL equivalent of Bertuzzi (sp?)

Of course you'd get arrested. And you'd get arrested for tackling someone, etc. You're missing the point, friend. :BangHead:

Maybe the RB could or should file charges. I would have no problem with him doing so. May even be justified. However, I'm just saying we need to be careful what we call "criminal" behavior on the field. Everything done during a normal football game, hockey game, boxing match, etc., could be construed as criminal if done in normal society. Shoving matches, blading with hockey sticks, throwing a bat, etc., all occur. Should these perps be prosecuted? Should Roger Clemens be banned from baseball because he threw a baseball bat at Mike Piazza (attempted assault)? What about whenever a hockey player high sticks someone or slashes? That's assault with a weapon. Some of you may think I'm defending this boorish behavior. I'm not. I'm just asking everyone to look at this consistently and logically.

Back to the topic....the five game penalty against Haynesworth is the longest penalty in NFL history for an on-the-field incident, according to Jim Rome's radio show today.

Refresh my memory. I would equate it with the assault on Rudy T years ago in the NBA.

I agree, but in the "world's" monetary "worth", 500k is a lot. If I were to strap on the cleats and stomp on somebody's face, if they sued me, they would most likely not receive 500k.

Got my names mixed up, I was thinking Marty McSorely who whacked a guys' head with his stick - was banned from the NHL, and charges were filed.

Bertuzzi knocked out Moore of COL this last year or so with a viscious punch to the temple (not during a fight) Bertuzzi was suspended for the year.

There was also the Draper incident from a Red Wings' playoff series. I forget when it was. Late 90s I believe.
