Getting a new Body?

The new body is given at the Second Resurrection. No matter one's eschatology, all are agreed on that fact.

 

Interesting question, Bro Gub! Unlike Aaron, I have a feeling there are differences of opinion about this, since the Bible does not tell us. However, knowing that God knows what He is doing, I am content to find out later! I do know one thing -- I don't want THIS body back!

 

I don't believe Heaven is filled now with spirits floating around. It is a real "place". Christ is there...with a glorified body. We are told we will be like Him, but as Helen pointed out, Scripture is silent what that currently means prior to the resurrection. Dr. Alcorn menitoned the possibility of being "clothed" in a temporary body waiting to be reunited with our new, resurrected body. I envision it like trading in a suit from Macy's with a more expensive one from Armani.

 

Our "new" bodies will really be our old bodies transformed ----made into something they have never been before thus making them "different"---- corruption putting on incorruption as described in 1Corinthians 15

Like Helen, I too am content to find out later. But due to the many body malformations, miscarriages, abortions, and ages in general, our new bodies will be somewhat different. You know ... the same, but different.

And Helen, I don't want THIS body back either! :laugh:

 

You WILL get this old body back----its called being raised from the dead----resurrection----sown in corruption and raised in incorruption----the same body raised PAST deformities, diseases, decay, & death

 

While I understand the gist of what you are saying, blackbird, there is a little problem physically with taking that literally. You see, we replace cells in our body frequently, shed hair, age, gain and then lose teeth, etc. So which body?

I remember the disciples, after the Resurrection, did not seem to recognize Christ...

I have total faith that it will all turn out fine, so I'm not worried about it, but considering we have, each of us, changed bodies, cell by cell, a number of times (you may even be breathing a bit of Aristotle right now...), I think that there may be more to the whole thing that we are thinking.

 

Regardless of the sloughing off of cells, we are still the same according to our DNA are we not? Just a thought. I think it will all turn out just fine too, Helen.

I don't know about anyone else, but I can hardly wait for my new body.........mine's worn out. :thumbs:

But in 2 Peter we read that the very elements will disappear in fire. We are made of those elements in these bodies.

So I think we may be in for some wonderful surprises.

 

Yet Jesus seems to say we can't be with Him till He returns:

Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, so that where I am, you may be also.


2Co 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Is this body different from the worm-eaten body in the grave? Which do we receive?

It would suit me just fine to hear a trumpet blow RIGHT NOW. Reason 1...Jesus and to be with Him forever !! Reason 2...this old flesh bag has been sick for nearly a week now and I am so very tired of it at the moment. Mostly sinus and allergy..worse than normal but it never seems to go completely away. I will soooo NOT MISS THAT !! God Bless Ya'll...if you think of it say a prayer for me.

I haven't had eschatology yet, so I am not sure.

Dispensationalists can maybe look in Ryrie's book to see how this goes.

 

I've always imagined our heavenly bodies as the ones God intended us to have before we messed them up. Before the accidents we had in the machines we invented or the diseases and birth defects we endured because we tampered with the clean environment he gave us.

I would hope to have restored to me, the body I had when I was eighteen and, this time, I promise not to complain about the little imperfections or to ask for Angelina Jolie's body instead.

What I'm really looking forward to is seeing my parents, young and beautiful again, without the ravages of their final illnesses.

 

I'm thinking maybe it will be like when Peter, James, and John were on the mountain with Jesus And Moses and Elijah appeared, Jesus was transfigured His face shone like the sun and His clothes were white as snow.
