I dont know why we all waste our time argueing with each other about these things. Something occurred to me lately.
EXPECTATIONS DETERMINE OUTCOME.
What do I mean by this? For every chart, graph, scientist or any other supposed proof that a right-winger can produce to show that temperatures are not rising and sea levels are not rising a left -winger can come along and produce his own set of charts, graphs, and scientists to show that it is. The results of the experiment will be determined by the ideology of the scientist.
When it comes to the war in Iraq for every news story showing progress in Iraq there are others touting Bushs' failures. For every retired General telling us what he would have done to bring victory in Iraq there is one in the field telling every one that things are going well. For every congressman and senator who is supporting our president there are cheap political opportunists trying to save their political hide who will put stumbling block after stumbling block in his way. What a politician sees when he/she visits Iraq will be determined by the political ideology they bring along.
The conclusion is that we all will believe what we want to believe when it comes to these two subjects. It is not the evidence that convinces us. It is something else. It is a deep seated ideology or some vision of utopia or pride that will prevent us from honestly looking at the other side
If one really wants to believe that global warming is a reality, no evidence to the contrary will convince him otherwise. If one wants to believe that we are seeing progress in Iraq the left-wing media will have no effect.
Expectations determine outcome.
