Glorious Appearing - any readers??

    I am surprised that no one has started a thread on Lahaye's final book "Glorious Appearing!" :eek: ...so I will start.
    Theology and eschatology aside, I thought it was pretty good. I particularly enjoyed how the author handled Christ's appearing in the middle of tribulation chaos - Christ simply quoted scripture left and right as He returned to end the battle and establish His 1,000 year reign. Awesome! I was afraid that the author was going to put words in Christ's mouth but the extensive use of scripture was a good idea [​IMG] .
    The only thing I outright did not like was the the devil was tossed into the pit for his 1,000 year imprisonment without confessing Christ. After all, Philippians 2:10-11 says that everything and everyone will confess JESUS IS LORD.
    By the way, the ending is w-i-d-e open for a sequel. Siiiiiiigh. :rolleyes:

    I read it, and didn't think it was as good as you do, apparently. I thought the writing in the whole series to be mediocre. (But I have read all 12 of em -- wanted to see how it turned out.) [​IMG]

    Apparently a Prequel and Sequel are already planned, if not another series going all the way through his/their (LaHaye/Jenkins) version of the millenium.

    I will admit that, like you, I was expecting a different take on Jesus and conversations with Him. That part was better than expected.

    But all in all I went in a believer in an amillenial (non-literal) eschatology, and came out the same way. In fact, my belief in the amillenial thought is stronger now than before. But that would be a topic for a theological forum, and probably not here.

    It was on par with the last half of the Left Behind Series. I have been really dissapointed in the books since about book 5 or 6. It seemed that LaHaye/Jenkins were just dragging out the story to get their 12 books. The story could have been told in no more than 8 books and possibly as few as 6.

    I have read book 1 and thought it was atrociously bad (this is a literary criticism not a judgement of it's theology), you mean it actually goes decidedly downhill from that level after book 5! :eek:
    Rarely have I seen such boring protagonists.

    I thought the series started out okay, but after the first 5 or 6 books, I started to lose interest. It seemed to drag on needlessly, and I thought the characters seemed shallow. I skipped the second to the last book, but read the last one, just to see how they ended it. I definitely won't read the series again. There are better Christian fiction books out there.
