It was brought to my attention that we should examine God's Effectual Call to Ministry.

OK. How should we apply those verses in the Bible where God called men into their ministries to our modern time.

I.e., is the call of a Jeremiah, Isaiah, or Paul directly applicable to you? Or to me? I know that I have heard these verses used (especially in missions altar calls) to directly apply to us as individuals.

    For a start: 1 Tim 3:2; Titus 1:6; Eph 4:11; Isaiah 6:4-6; 1 Samuel ch 3; Isaiah 8:18; Jeremiah 1: 4 - 9; and other passages?

    1. Specifically address how the biblical calls of our ancestors should be used to motivate us (by God and by other preachers).

    2. How should God's call be viewed as effectual (when do we the body of Christ know that a man is used of God).

    3. How much should we respect the call upon other men?

    4. Can ANYONE be called if they tell us that they are called? (Should we endorse everyone that tells us they are called?)

    5. How is the calling different for different ministeries?

    6. Other points that I might miss about the calling?

I believe the "call to ministry" is to all believers based on our spiritual gifts. If what you mean is becoming a pastor, that is also based on what spiritual gifts God gives those who become pastors.

Let God lead you and do what He leads you to do. His leading never contradicts His Word, but I do believe that it can extend to areas not touched on by specific Scripture.

    Hey El-G,

Sorry I did not mean to ignore your thread. I did not see it here until now. However, the Pastoral Ministries Forum is also located in the Baptist Fellowship area of the BB and is not intended to for debating issues. That is why our discussion of this topic is best suited to be held in the Baptist Debate section where I started a similar thread.

Well, this isn't debate. It is just sharing/fellowship. (I'll go up and fuss at you all on the debate forums). [IMG]

From the inner prompting of the Spirit and His gifting me, I felt led into full time vocational ministry. No burning bush.

And follow that leading and peace of the Spirit step by step. From large pastorates to college teaching to new church missions. I just seek to be faithful.

The FACT of a call is for all of us. The HOW and WHERE is the variable.
