Going electric!

Here is a link to a story that reveals another carmaker planning to go all or mostly all electric by 2030.
Mercedes-Benz to go all-electric by 2030
A year or two ago, some thought the BEV was vaporware, a fiction being sold to make money. Tesla's 4680 cell appears to offer viability for widespread use of EV's. And Toyota appeared to be ready to show off a prototype solid state battery SUV this year. (Still waiting.)

The electrics are coming, ha ha, ha ha, the electrics are coming ho ho, ho ho.

The 4680 cell, to be produced by several battery makers including Panasonic allows fast charging without generating a lot of heat due to internal resistance.

No need to cling to yesterday. Have you seen how well Tesla vehicles handle minor flooding? 2022 appears to portend a very good year for electrics.

My problem with the electrics is they do not help the environment. They harm it.

And I believe electrics are more sustainable than fossil fuel guzzlers. I grew up in the LA basin breathing SMOG from leaded gas. I will not be around, but I suspect that the unhealthful air quality in the basin will be reduced when electrics dominate our transportation vehicles.

Until they put more nuclear plants online, how they going to charge them? They already have rolling blackouts because they don't have enough electricity. Most of U.S. electricity comes from.........Coal. For the electric cars to be net cleaner than Petro cars, the electricity has to be clean.

We do not need more nukes until we have a functioning system to store and dispose of spent fuel. BEV charge overnight when there is ample reserve to handle the BEV load. We do need more generation, from Natural Gas, to retire the coal plants. Modern combined cycle plants are quite efficient. And solar power systems for residential buildings would allow independence from the mis-managed (read Marxist overreach) public power utilities .

Electric cars charge overnight. I was specifically referring to California. Their grid runs closest to its peak capacity at night. They are heavily dependant on solar and solar does not work too well at night.

Sir, the California grid usually has two peaks, with the second one around 7-9 PM. Then the load falls off and does not start climbing until around 5-7 AM. Plenty of time to charge.

Solar provides less than 20% of the power, with the bulk supported by Gas, Nuclear, and imported power from undisclosed sources.

Imported power from coal. Y'all go all electric and enjoy your blackouts.

As I indicated, the reason for blackouts is the Dems have disallowed Utilities from building the needed Generation facilitates, such as combined cycle plants. In their head-long rush to block our energy independence in the name of the environment, but really an attack on individual freedom, they have prevented building a robust electrical power infrastructure.

Yep. Until you build it, electric cars are a pipe dream.
