Going to college in the fall for youth ministry

Hey everyone... I will be going to college for youth ministry this next fall at BBC... and I was just wondering before I got into it... like I just wanna learn from your experiences I guess... and idk... not sure where I am going exactly with this post...

I am going to go to BBC in Springfield, Missouri.


I really believe He is calling me to like Jr. to Senior teenagers... I guess teenagers in general.. (If that's what you meant...)

Well over the past three years... I feel like God has been calling to that... and certain things in life have just directed me more towards that too.
Here are a few: I went to a camp which is hosted by LIFT student ministries... and in 2008 I surrendered to youth ministry... and well my Junior year was coming up the next year... and well I started to feel like... what God called me to do wasn't "cool". So I struggle with for a few months and then I prayed about it finally after church one night... and well someone sent me message on facebook three weeks later saying, "You wanted to be a youth pastor right?" and well that was an answer to prayer... and ever since that I have been confident that is where God wants me to be.

There have been other small things that have helped me know that is where He wants me... but I don't wanna make a book on here xD...

The youth that I want to serve.... I guess that is up to God... whoever He wants me to serve I guess.

 

1. Where do you see yourself living in 10 years? 20 years? Some Bible Colleges are accredited within the state, and may not be accredited in other states. This could be an issue for you if you plan to transfer you credits to another school or move to another state.
   
   Well I see myself living with my future wife (if i meet her within that time frame).... either in an apartment or a house. I do not have any college credits to transfer over... all of them will be through BBC.
   
   
2. The Youth Pastors I have known have described their jobs as a "shepherd." The meaning here is they do a lot of "keeping watch over their flock." Ya I would agree.
   
   
3. The Youth Pastors I have known have had secular jobs to support themselves and their families, or their spouses have worked. I have known one exception to this and that Youth Pastor had a position at a large church (Sunday attendance >1,000). Well I would either get a second job or my wife would have a job as well... but I know either way God will provide.
   
   
4. Have you visited the campus of BBC with your parents? Have you sat through a class or two as a visitor? Have you and your parents had several meetings with the financial aid office? Yes I have visited it about 4 times by now and looked through 3 or 4 classes each time. No... but we are looking at financial aid things.
   
   
5. Do you know what your college education will cost? Yes I do.
   It is a lot but I know if God has called me... He will provide.
   
   
6. How do you plan on paying for college? This should be considered along with the salary you hope to receive as a Youth Pastor. If you decide to pay for college by taking out loans--will you be able to pay the loan payments along with your other living expenses? I plan on getting a job while in college. Hopefully campus security possibility. I know God will get me through... even though sometimes I may not know how myself... because He is great and I know He will provide when needed.
   
   
7. If you parents are going to help you pay for college, do you have other brothers and sisters still at home? How will your going to college affect the rest of your family? Are you willing to work your way through college on a "pay as you go" basis? They will some... and I have a sister. They are happy about the decision... so I believe alright. Pay as you go?
   
   
8. Are you willing to approach the call as a tentmaker? Bi-vocational Youth Pastor? Have you prayed about a related career field, such as teaching at either a Christian or public school? No... I do not believe that is what God is calling me to do. But possibly I could teach at a Christian school but I don't know.
   
   
9. Can you drive a church bus, one hand on the steering wheel and the other hand. . . minding your shepherd's hook? Yes I believe I could.
   
   
10. In your area of Indiana, how many churches have Youth Pastors as paid positions? 1 out 2, 1 out of 5, 1 out of 10, etc. The question here is: How many Youth Pastor positions exist where you want to live? Well I don't know if I want to come back to Indiana.... I mean its up to God... its wherever He wants me to go.... and I know where He lead me... He will supply for me.
