    Since it is completely untrue that we are running out of oil the whole premise of this articel is false and not credible.

    We will never run out of oil because as the price increases the uneconomical uses will disappear.

    No one can explain to me why wholesalers and retailers should charge less than people are willing to pay. As long as profits increase as sales increase prices should be raised. When the point is reached that rising prices cut profits then prices will stop rising. This will not happen until people find a more economical substitute.

    All you people who, in the last 5 years bought a house 10 miles from your work and a new 15 MPG SUV to make your commute . . . didn't you know that gas was going to 4 or 5 dollars? Are you surprised that gas has jumped? Why? How else could it be?

    You all married folk with 2 working parents, one with a minimum wage job . . . maybe it is no longer cost effective for one of you to drive to work. Stay home and home teach your kids. Going to work is expensive.

    You want a job in the city and a house in the country? You want. . . you want . . . stop buying your wants on credit. I should feel sorry for you that you can't have everything you want? Breaks my heart.

    Yes, there are low income people out there that are breaking their backs and losing ground but they are probably not in this list. They don't have the time to waste as I do.

    It is true that over the next decade that we will run out of the cheapest, most easily accessible crude oil, according to the president of Shell Oil Co.:

    HOFMEISTER: Well, I think there is some argument [that] with convenient, easyoil we will peak sometime in the next decade. I think Shell sees that coming, but in terms of total oil supply to the world, we're a long way from reaching peak oil because it doesn't take into account unconventional oil.

    Contrare, my dear! The president of Shell Oil Company publishes what he wants you to hear and believe. Company secrets are kept, and one of them is the extent of the oil fields. In a sense, 'he who controls the oil controls the world.'

    (A good exercise, what other things create a position of control? Food perhaps? How about health care? How about water? How about clean air? How about energy to run our homes? How about monopolizing media news? What's next..... the Internet? ......organized religion?)

    What we think is the high price of oil is really a reflection of the devaluing of our dollar in the global market. Money doesn't obtain value by printing it: Paper gains its value by something of value backing it. The more money that is printed, the lower the value unless something is added on the other end. Food is going up. Milk prices especially. Locally the shelves are well stocked. The price isn't due to demand; The price is due to the drop in the value of our dollar in a global economy.

    I retired. I went into an auto sales and had a fitting for a sub-compact. My car payment won't be as big as my pills payments.

    If I were younger, i'd get a job where i could cyber-commute to work.

    I read a geography book and my first father-in-law was an Oil Field pumper. Via Google Maps, the president of Shell Oil Company can't hide that stuff from anybody except those who only read consipiracy sights. As the tree huggers note: "the problem is Soccer moms who love SUVs".

    Analysts predict it will reach $120 a barrel...and then due to supply and demand, level back out at $60. That's about $2.30 a gallon. It won't last long.

    I agree. The OPEC ministers meet each year and decide how much oil to pump. That right there is a big tool that greatly helps decide the cost of our oil.

    As long as we continue to ignore these strategies, these manipulators will continue to extract every dollar they can. Meanwhile, we keep our known (and unexplored) oil deposits undeveloped, and will continue to help finance the evil interests of those in that region.

    And I believe Mr. Hofmeister is being somewhat PC and disingenuous.

    When I bought my new (used) car 2 years ago, it cost me $25.00 to fill the gas tank. I am going on a week-end trip to my daughter's wedding and last night it cost me $55.00 to fill the gas tank. And that's all I have to say about that...

    Filled up my trusty rusty (used compact) just the other day- $30 to fill up just a smidge over 1/2 a tank and I drive sparingly!

    Unfortunately, even a horse demands maintenance, and pasture, and supplimental feed.

    If I could afford a scooter, I'd almost be willing to buy one for the economy of travel. My Taurus is paid for and I get 22-25mpg: Still I try to be frugal...... I use to think cranking a car used more fuel, so would idle if going through drive window such as bank or fast food: Then I read an article which said idling longer than 30 seconds consumes more fuel than stopping and restarting.... So you may guess what I do now when I see I'll have to wait. I guess if being really frugal ...I'd park the car and walk in.... oh well!

    You might want to check the price of a starter before you start and stop it too often to save a few cents worth of gasoline.
