Years ago I always ran BB for geese, like I was going for high altitude, with 30 inch full choke but have come use 2# and 4# for more clear hits and bigger tallies.

Got 200 geese a day instead of just 70, just by changing shot sizes. Can fill the freezers till next season very easy.

Also switched from wet marinade to dry method. Much better tasting.

Slice goose up in thin steaks, dip in beaten egg and bread crumb in large zip lock bags. Mix curry powder and Moroccan spice into the bread crumbs beforehand.

    Deep fry in canola oil.

You can make 20lb batches easy this way.

200 geese per day. Heard they are going extinct in your area.:)

Magpie geese are everywhere, almost a pest.

Hardly anyone to control them as well.

Some areas in the tundra (northern / summer range) are overpopulated. To offer relief to those areas there is a "Light goose conservation order." In my state, you have to get a special permit, but with that order, there is no limit and you do not have to use plugged guns. Many other states offered those permits last year. I have no idea if they will be offered in 2023. I have friends who hunt snow geese when they follow the Mississippi River, but I have never personally been goose hunting.

It’s worth it in good places, a lot of easy meat to harvest.

I use a pot plant hanger hook off the back tray of my Ute.

Just shove goose neck onto hook, the head will take the weight. Body of goose should be at chest height.

Good heavy hunting knife with chopping power, grab feet and chop legs off at the feather line.

Cut front skin at base of neck and turn, do same at back of neck.

Pull skin down to legs, cut wings off, cut out breasts and cut off legs thighs.

You will get faster over time.

Have a large cooler ready to drop the meat in.

I always have tap barrel of water to wash off in the field.

I’ll bring the Engel fridge freezer sometimes to freeze meat if I’m a long way out or camping in field.

Other thing is to have falling goose awareness, it’s a heavy bird and they can build a real head of steam before impact. They’ll knock more than your hat and sun glasses off, stupid things.

If you don’t have a caller just yell their names Hank and Frank, it works just as good at bringing them in.

Don’t bother taking dogs, you will lose them. There are too many snakes, and it’s heart breaking, if your dog gets tagged. As useful as they are, just don’t bring them.

The harvested carcasses we use for crab bait, the mud crabs really love them for some reason.

The livers are good for sharks. We make what they call nuggets out of them. Small Sand sharks and black tip reef sharks are very good eating. Just remember to cook all fish and chips in tallow a good beef fat, that’s the secret.

Important to invest in a good set of chest freezers before you start, because one thing leads to another thing.

Bill C-21. Looks like Trudeau is coming for your guns. Better get as many geese as you can.

Does anyone know a good way to discourage them from coming into your yard? I have tried dog silhouettes that rotate on a stick but they figure that out after a while just like everything else I have tried. I haven't gone to the extreme limits yet.

He’ll have a hard time 10:000 miles out of his jurisdiction in The Northern Territory or Western Australia, good luck to him.

A good kelpie or cattle dog will chase them off all day long, just encourage a little territorialness in them as pups.

The best and most charming thing I like about Trudeau, is that he is on the other side of the planet.

You can think it, but just don’t you say it.

Failing the dog method, you might have to go a little kinetic.

When I was young we made Shanghai’s/ slingshots out of 3mm fencing wire, and used bent 2 inch nails as ammo.

We had a large gang to feed, and there was no welfare, so the fish and wildlife copped a hammering. The 2 inch nails will take down large birds.

Just treat them like normal opportunity meat.

You could also make a number 7 boomerang.

You can walk right up to geese using the boomerang to imitate the geese, it looks like a goose neck and head. They are stupid things.

Then when you are close enough, throw it two handed like a baseball bat at them.

The heavy dense slow growing timber holds a huge amount of energy, in forward motion but also in rotation, plus the thin edge makes this weapon deadly to animals, it breaks even large kangaroo spines and legs. No animal runs a gauntlet of men armed with these unscathed, it will break something at the very least.

It’s the most feared weapon because it is very hard to see it coming at you in thin profile, and the damage is always grievous to deadly.

It’s also a good club for protection or finishing something off.
