    GOP In Serious Trouble
    By Chuck Baldwin

Food For Thought From The Chuck Wagon

January 24, 2006 - One does not have to be a prophet to see that the future of the national Republican Party is very bleak. It also seems that the GOP is willingly assisting its own demise.

In the first place, the GOP has betrayed its conservative base-big time! "Republicans may like to brag that they are the party of Ronald Reagan and are dedicated to the policies and principles for which [Reagan] stood, but they are acting more like members of the party of Lyndon Johnson." Those words were written by Michael Reagan, President Reagan's son. He is right, of course.

Michael Reagan also wrote, "Republicans, those vaunted champions of fiscal integrity and honesty in government, showed just how they are dedicated to my dad's principles by greedily looting the federal budget of billions of dollars to fund their pet projects and keep the voters back home happy and in a mood to re- elect them."

Reagan also chronicled the way Republican congressional leaders promised individual members of congress up to $14 million "in free earmarks," if they would support (which they did) the massive $286.5 billion transportation bill. According to Reagan, "[T]he bill came to a total of 6,300 earmarked projects costing the taxpayers $24 billion."

Reagan correctly noted that "This is a clear case of bribery. The people being bribed were members of Congress. The people making the bribes were members of Congress. Congressmen bribing congressmen." Of course, if anyone in the private sector behaved as do members of congress, they would be in prison!

The sad truth is, in terms of fiscal responsibility, the Bush-led GOP have become the most irresponsible spenders in U.S. history! Instead of re-electing them, we should be prosecuting them for acts of criminality!

However, not only has the GOP abandoned its conservative base, it has done nothing to stem the tide of millions of illegal aliens, mostly Hispanic, that are pouring across our southern border. In fact, it has deliberately aided and abetted this phenomenon.

President Bush's amnesty program has encouraged illegal aliens to cross the southern border in record numbers. Furthermore, Bush's coziness with Mexican President Vicente Fox has only served to facilitate this problem.

Fox promotes illegal immigration to America, because he knows it is a huge source of revenue for his country. For example, in 2004, illegal aliens in America sent more than $16 billion back to Mexico. According to press reports, this amounts to Mexico's second largest source of foreign currency after oil exports.

Of course, illegal immigration is a curse, not a blessing, for the United States. America's education, insurance, and medical systems are currently reeling from the stress and strain being produced by illegal immigration.

Even more telling is the fact that by 2050, Caucasians will be a minority race in the U.S. This is already the case in several communities in America's great Southwest. The main reason: the vast numbers of Hispanics who have illegally migrated to our country.

As Pat Buchanan noted, Hispanics tend to vote Democrat by large margins. To think that they could be enticed to vote Republican (at least in large numbers) is only wishful thinking.

Beyond that, we have not even factored in fall-out from current congressional corruption scandals and the power-lust of the Bush White House. Bottom line: the GOP is in serious trouble. (For that matter, the whole country is in serious trouble, thanks to both major parties in Washington, D.C.)

It would be nice to believe that the GOP could see the error of its ways, repent, truly embrace genuine conservative principles, and get serious about protecting our borders. It would be nice if Ted Kennedy came clean about Chappaquiddick, too. However, one has about as much chance of happening as the other.

Therefore, unless a serious independent movement can take shape, one committed to conservative principles and constitutional government, prepare yourselves for long term Democratic majorities.

This artical is absoluty dead on. The only thing saving the Republicans is the fact that there is no one better to vote for.

The GOP has betrayed its conservative base by moving so far LEFT. So how is this going to help Democrates that have also moved further left making Stalen look like a moderate. I dont see the logic in that. Bush spends like a drunken Kennedy so I am going to vote for Kerry. I dont think so. Bush has a big goverment, so I am going to vote for Hillary, Ya right.

If an independent movement of conservatives came along that had the potental to win and remain on the right, I would abandon the left leaning GOP like a sinking ship.

In general hispanics also tend to be Catholic, making them moraly conservative, and have high numbers in military service. If Republicans can stress morality as in anti abortion and anti gay marraige, and be seen as the party that suports the millitary, they may start to swing significant hispanic votes.

I have been watching these two. They both have positives and negatives.

I like the constitution party except they go to far with mandated prayer in schools and forced morality. I dont trust goverment to be teach my kids religion, look at where I live.

Exactly the oppiset problem with libreatarians. I like they want limited goverment but some socal standards are necessary. I dont want leagalized drugs and abortion should be outlawed as murder.

As it is both partys are un-electable. Libratarians get my defalt vote when no good canidate exists on the D or R side.

I would like to see a combination of the Constitution and Libratarian parties both droping there extream elements. There are Christian-Libratarians, Vox Day being the best known. But they are small and unknown for now.

Where did you get the idea that the Constitution Party is pushing mandated prayer in government schools - especially since its platform calls for zero federal government involvement in schools?

Where did you get the idea that the Constitution Party calls for forced morality? Where is that stated in its platform?

Personally, I am in favor of legalizing drugs. I would also like to see Roe v. Wade reversed so that the issue of abortion goes back to being a State matter like it was prior to January 23, 1973.

I re-read the platform, I was mistaken about what it said concerning education. It seems the Constitution party may be what I am looking for.

Read there position on pornography. While I agree that it is destructive. I dont really want a goverment that outlaws everything it finds objectionable. Of course it does not say how far they would go and what kind of porn they would outlaw but the tone of the platform just sets of red flags for me.

I would like to see just a little bit of Libratarian mixed in with the Constitution party. Like Burger King, I want to have it my way ;)

Then you are not involved in law enforcement. You need to walk in my shoes, see what I see. You would not believe the number of babies, infants found with mephanphetamine in them from crawling around the carpet of a meth lab. Nothing will destroy this country faster then legalizing all drugs. Marijuana you can make an arguement for, but all drugs

There are plenty of people in law enforcement who favor legalizing drugs, just as there are plenty who oppose it. I worked on a drug task force for several years, and favor legalization. My uncle is a Customs agent, and he favors legalization. My step-brother is in prison, and he certainly favors legalization. Just because one opposes the current law doesn't mean they don't see some harm from it, they just see a different path towards reorienting our priorities.
