Gore Nominated for Nobel

So was Rush and someone else that didn't make sense. Nobel would not like what his endowment has become. Consider past winners, Arafat, and Carter.

Given the way other attempts to make peace between Arabs and Israel have gone, it's not surprising that Carter, the architect of the one successful attempt, was given a Nobel.

It would have been indefensible not to have given it to him.

Next they will nominate Gore for a Nobel Prize . . . for what? Creating the internet?

I don't see much hope for Rush getting the prize but maybe he will get an equivalent to something like Miss Congeniality.

 

This thread set me to musing about Baptist Nobel laureates. Martin Luther King, Jimmy Carter ... have there been others?

I presume posters know that Al Gore has been active in his Baptist church in Alexandria, VA, and that he did a divinity degree at Vanderbilt years ago.

 

Actually, Vice President Gore did not complete the degree, but did a little coursework at Vanderbilt Divinity and Vanderbilt Law. David Maraniss wrote that he asked for and received an early discharge from the military to do so. I don't recall if he ever had aspirations of becoming a member of the clergy:

So he's been nominated. Big deal. So was that guy Tookie in California. You remember him? He blasted FOUR people with a shotgun in a motel. But just because he wrote a book about kids and gangs before they executed him some clown thought he deserved a Peace Prize for "reforming" and trying to steer kids from gangs. IMO Tookie offered too little too late. The Crips have spread around the globe and have terrorized tens of thousands of people these last thiry years since being co-founded by this Tookie creep.

Considering who has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in the past, I would consider it an insult to even be nominated.
