The Senate has cast enough votes to confirm Neil Gorsuch, a 49-year-old federal judge who could help cement a conservative majority on the bench for decades, to the Supreme Court, according to a CNN count of the vote.

The nonsense started by Democrats in 2003 (needing 60 votes instead of 51) has been stopped. Now back to the NORMAL 51 votes to get things done.

We just need any/all of the 3 uber-liberal women still on the court to "need replacement" in the next year or two while we HAVE 51 votes to get a conservative pro-Constitutionist in

Think that just makes the SC even again, as he replacedd Scalia, to have a real advantage, trump have to have 1 more judge confirmed, like replacing ruth bader Ginsburg!

Agree, but also means that if the Dems get back in power 2018. they will place more liberals on the court!

It should NOT be that - 93% of liberals in the legislature were okay with Gorsuch as a judge; they just became the party of "no" and politicized this. We need to hammer thru while we have 51 votes a conservative agenda in the courts.

Remember, the REAL power of the US is in the courts under our very-unequal power of government today. Executive? Trump acts and courts allowed it to be ignored. Legislature passes laws and courts say it is not constitutional. 9 black-robed oligarchy runs America.

In the past they were able to get any number of liberals on the SCOTUS with the rule in place (e.g. Kagan, Sotomayor), so I don't think this changes much.

What was the final vote count?

54 to 45. One not voting and 3 Democrats voting "yay." One Republican was in the hospital recovering from an injury. Sen. Johnny Isakson, R.Georgia.

U.S. Senate: U.S. Senate Roll Call Votes 115th Congress - 1st Session

Notice the three Democrats that voted for confirmation - ALL in Trump states, all up for reelection next year. The Senate will not turn in 2018 unless the GOP takes a huge hit, one of Watergate proportions - the three who voted for Gorsach today at least tried, got to wonder about Claire in MO and that guy Tester in MT - they may have put the final in their political coffins just now.

They would have changed the rules to get what they want. Republicans would have really been stupid not to do what they had to do to confirm Gorsuch. Democrats had no real reason to filibuster him. He's not a radical of any kind.

Clearly no real reason, but I think two "reasons" were:
1. Chafing over Merrick Garland
2. Opposing anyone Trump nominates

Exactly. It didn't matter who he nominated...unless they could somehow force him to appoint a left wing idealogue, the only kind they would really support.

One can HOPE their political life is ebbing. We in the mountain west are embarrassed by Bennett in Colorado and Tester in Montana. Seem to align always with the uber-libs of California, not with the people they represent.

Glad for Gorsuch ... even happier for Trump as his nomination is now history.

As for the haters, AKA the dems, they got what they deserved. If they want to obstruct for Trump's complete term, let them, because the nuke option is not going away.

Trump could have nominated Jesus Himself as chief SC Justice, and the Dems would have just said "not qualified"
