Gospel Repentance

Mr 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

The "kingdom of God is at hand" refers to the PERSON of the King incarnated in Jesus Christ. John went before "Him" to prepare "His way" saying the kingdom of God is at hand - Mk. 1:1-3.

The "gospel of the kingdom" is expounded in John 3:1-20 and John 3:36 showing in detail what the "good news" of the kingdom was or how to enter the kingdom (1) by new birth - Jn. 3:1-9 and faith in Christ - Jn. 3:15-16 that transforms your very nature - Jn. 3:18-20 removing you out from under the wrath of God - Jn. 3:36.

The Great Commission to ALL NATIONS was to preach "repentance" in connection with the gospel and they went out preaching the gospel of the kingdom:

TO THE SAMARITANS

Ac 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

TO THE JEWS

Ac 19:8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

TO THE GENTILES

Ac 20:25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.

TO ANYONE WHO CAME TO SEE HIM

Ac 28:31 Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.

Repentance is toward God and is turning from EVERYTHING about self and what self can do to be saved but entirely dying to self and RESTING in the good news of Jesus Christ.

Repentance is toward God and is turning from EVERYTHING about self and what self can do to be saved but entirely dying to self and RESTING in the good news of Jesus Christ.

And that act is impossible for natural men and women to do by and of themselves, but the Lord grants to those to get saved His garce to enable them to do that repenting and turning to jesus to get saved!

And is the Kingdom now also in all of those saved by his grace now?

And what's the confirmation that we have Biblically repented? The Bible speaks twice that I find about the "fruit" of repentance. You wouldn't think you would have to remind Christians what repentance is, but you do.

On my other forum, myself and a couple of others were giving some counsel to a fellow - who by his own testimony has "screwed up his life over and over" to the point where he has lost his wife and children. He is very depressed, discouraged, and sickened by his own sin.

He just kept on saying, "I repent and repent just like I've been taught - I feel remorseful and apologize - but I just keep sinning." I sighed with anger wondering what type of church was teaching him that false definition of repentance.

So I told him....

Repentance isn't just apologizing and being sorry. Repentance isn't being remorseful. It isn't admitting that you've screwed up. Lots of people - both Christian and non-believers - are really good at admitting their mistakes and feeling really, really bad about it. But they just keep on doing the same thing anyway because that isn't repentance.

In the book of Exodus, Pharoah said, "I have sinned...." more than once. Yet he remained unchanged. The same thing for Balak in the book of Numbers and King Saul in Samuel. They both claimed sincerely and with emotion, "I have sinned!!" Yet they remained unchanged.

The televangelist, Jimmy Swaggert, from Baton Rouge had a problem with soliciting prostitutes. When the media found out about it and the national spotlight was upon him, he cried HUGE tears at his church and cried aloud, "I HAVE SINNED!!!!". Yet he remained unchange. He still continued to solicit prostitutes and when his church held him accountable again, he virtually told them that this was none of their business.

None of these men underwent Biblical repentance.

Then what is repentence?

It's a change of mind/heart that leads to a "fruit" or a change in behavior. At least that's what John the Baptist said in Luke 3 and Paul (via Luke) in Acts 3 and 26.

If one remains unchanged, he or she has not Biblically repented. Remorse and guilt do not lead to the "fruit of repentance". Remorse and guilt only lead to depression and an addicitive bond to repeat the old behavior to self-medicate against the guilt and remorse. Ironic, no?

think tht its like realise there is a sin prblem area, agreeing with God its sinful, and elect to decide to forsake doing that, and relying upon the Holy Sprit to enable us to do that! can still fall into stuff again, but will by the Lord empowering and the scriptures to get victory over it!

Key thing is to see the sin as the Lord calls it, and turn away under His power...

Where Christians err is either refine the sin as being acceptable and OK, or else try to overcome by self will power alone!

There is no Faith in Christ until after the New Birth into the Kingdom ! One must be birthed into the Kingdom to see the thigs of God Jn 3:3

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

The word see there means to understand, and in order to understand spiritual things, you must first be made spiritual !

Begotten us again is the greek anagennaō which means:


to produce again, be born again, born anew

2) metaph. to have one's mind changed/Repentance so that he lives a new life and one conformed to the will of God

So a Changed Mind unto a New Life unto God is from New Birth or being begotten again ! You must be born again in order to repent and to believe in Christ, to live by Faith !

The new nature in christ, the indwelling of the Holy spirt hapens WHEN faith is place in jesus, and we receive him by faith!

paul says that IF one has not the Spirit of Christ, NOT one of his, and the Spirit comes into us when reborn, by faith in jesus!

Since Repentance comes through the New Birth, the command to repent goes out by God to all those who have been begotten again by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the Dead !

When one Repents it is an evidence of having been begotten again by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the Dead, it makes manifest that New Life, for remember to be begotten again means:

to produce again, be born again, born anew

Unto Obedience !



1 Pet 1:1-2

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

All for whom Christ died shall be made obedient which is an effect and fruit of the success of His Death. The Holy Spirit is responsible in the Covenant engagement to bring all for whom Christ died to obedience to the Faith Rom 16:26

But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

These here are the Elect of God, Elect according to the Foreknowledge of God the Father, because He chose them in Christ before the foundation Eph 1:3-4

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Thats why they are the foreknown, and they were Chosen to Obedience or to Faith and the Holy Spirit brings that about, this comes through the New Birth for they are begotten again by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the Dead 1 Pet 1:3

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

This is how the Elect begin their New Life of Obedience, for the word begotten us again in the greek is the word anagennaō and means:


to produce again, be born again, born anew

2) metaph. to have one's mind changed so that he lives a new life and one conformed to the will of God

We have our minds changed [repentance] so that we do live a new life, one conformed to the will of God, that's the beginning of Obedience !

This is but the fulfillment of the Covenant Promise that promised obedience Ezk 36:26-27


26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

You see that ? Thats promised obedience ! This is the Ministry of the New Covenant, the administration of the Spirit 2 Cor 3:5-8, So the Apostles knew as they were directed to Preach the Gospel , they knew that those who obeyed, that God had given them the Spirit Ezk 36:27

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

And so Peter declared that God had given the Spirit of promise to those obeying Him Acts 5:32

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Which are these 1 Pet 1:1-2

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

If they were obeying, it was because they had partaken of the Holy Spirit's Sanctification !

Unprofitableness of Duty Faith and Repentance !



Luke 17:10

10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

The Anti Christ followers are big on this doing a duty or obeying a command in order for God to save them, as though they did something to deserve it !

But look at the fate of the unprofitable servant that relies on his commandment keeping for salvation ! Matt 25:30

And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

But the Natural man is always going to have that mentality that salvation comes through them paying a debt of duty, and they neglect that Jesus Christ has paid that debt which God's Chosen People owed, but they will refuse to bow to that Revelation in the Gospel of God !
