    GRAHAM CRUSADE DRAWS RECORD CROWD
    (Cincinnati-AP) -- A record 65-thousand-600 turned out at Paul
Brown Stadium last night in Cincinnati for the final evening of the
Reverend Billy Graham's crusade. That's the largest crowd ever for
the two-year old stadium, which serves as home for the National
Football League's Bengals. Organizers say about 201-thousand
    attended over the four nights.
Graham told the Biblical story of the prodigal son, who left his
father and home, then repented and returned to ask for forgiveness.
He urged listeners to seek forgiveness from God.
Throughout the mission Graham, also referred frequently to the
problem of racism and the need for racial unity.
The message had particular meaning for a city where the fatal
police shooting of an unarmed black man sparked three days of riots
    in April 2001.

No doubt it did; big shows draw big crowds. But how many really came to know Jesus Christ and Him crucified?

    Good and thought-provoking question,Chris.

I have always had mixed feelings about Billy Graham myself. Coming from an IFB background as I have, I grew up hearing him criticized as a liberal and a compromiser. Sharing the concerns of my Calvinist friends about easy-believism and quick-prayerism, I've wondered how many of his converts are genuine.

On the other side of the coin, though, I find things about him to respect and admire. He certainly makes use of his platform for the gospel, and his longevity without the taint of scandal or reproach is impressive.

As with most people that are larger than life, I suspect there will be both positive and negative aspects of Billy Graham's ultimate legacy.

I haven't heard much about it lately, but the Nixon-Graham tape that was in the media-spotlight recently where they appeared to make derogatory comments about Jews tends to leave a little bit of a blemish on his legacy. He claimed to not remember having said those things and I believe he apologized in general for those remarks, if I remember correctly.

I find it curious that after all these years it finally came into the public eye. Things like that recording can easily be counterfeited. Whether it was or not I don't know... but it is possible to do.

As for easy believism... I don't think it's only in front of Billy Graham's eyes at one of his crusades... I think it exists in every congregation of whatever denomination that has alter calls or invitations... just my opinion...

Who said 65000 people "had the chance" to "accept" Jesus as Savior? Where is that found in Scripture?

John 6:37 All that the Father gives me will come to me; and him who comes to me I will not cast out.
    38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me;
39 and this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up at the last day.

Lets face it the Lord has used Dr. Graham to bring a great number of people to him ,sure Dr.Graham has had to make some questionable compromises to get the Gospel out to the world. How many people have we heard testify that they have come to the Lord when they have heard Dr. Graham preach and have remained committed christians through out their lives? Dr. Graham isn't perfect and I think certain people think he should be but all people have sinned and come short of the glory of God so lets give Dr. Graham a break.

    Thanks

we have all done questionable things in our lives, no doubt in someone's opinion, our witness would be considered "not good enough". Would it be fair to say that ALL of YOU, had no impact in leading others to Christ because of questionable issues. Thats ridiculous! There are a hundred responses to this point, "B.G. supports Catholics, ect. ect." but does notG Godjudge sin as sin. We all have sinned. B.G. sins. Thank God for Grace!!

Hang me from the highest tree if you all like, but I don't think the Billy Graham crusades mean a lot -- at least not anymore.

Can you imagine the impact on this country if everyone who SAID they had been saved at one of these things actually was now born again and indwelt by the Holy Spirit?

That, Helen, goes to the heart of the matter. In the late 40s, there were many men holding "city wide" evangelistic campaigns in the spirit of Moody, Sunday, Torrey, et al. However, by 1960, Brother Graham was the only one in that field. It has been posited that his philosophy and ecumenical practices sucked the oxygen out of the other operations.

I admit, I was saved through the BGEA. But now I am definately sceptikal about Dr. Graham. He is....just too much in tune with Christ. Makes me wonder whether or not he's...I hate use the word...addicted to Christianity (There are people who are!)

I believe it's safe to say that our country would be very different today.

I don't doubt that some (perhaps many) have been converted at BG crusades; I don't know. But I fear many "have walked the aisle" at these and spend the rest of their lives clinging to a false assurance when there is no evidence of a Holy Spirit work in their lives.

I know of two people who came to salvation by watching a Billy Graham Crusade. Both of them became active in their churches. I don't agree with everything that Graham does. Many times God uses things or people that don't fit our preconceived ideas.

Its assuring that God has promised that His word would not return void, but that it will accomplish the purpose for which he sends it. So compromise to increase effectiveness is not only unneccessary, it is an affront to God's truthfulness and His sovereign power.
