Since 1963 and the assassination of John F Kennedy, there have been many views. Wonder where you stand?

    Oswald?
    Single gunman?
    Multiple gunmen?
    Vast right-wing conspiracy?

    Putting Holmes's dictum
So, flying in the face of the improbability of it, I go with the Oswald single shooter scenario. The other scenarios call for too many people to be involved for it to them to be kept secret for this long of time. That's not to say other scenarios are not implausible. If they weren't, they wouldn't still be put forward as possibilities. But considering the U.S. government over the long term can't keep a secret, if it was involved, we would have had proof positive by now. As for the other possibilities, I'll repeat my too many people involved comment.

The magic bullet theory makes the lone-gunman idea ridiculous.

I've sat in the window of the Book Depository. I stood on the grassy knoll. No way did one man do all the shooting.

Think it was a set up job.

It was absolutely a conspiracy involing multiple gunmen, perhaps reaching to high levels of government. There is an interesting book entitled something like "The Man who Knew Too Much."

I go along with you boys on this one, it has to be multiple gunmen - the magic bullet theory is just a bit to far fetched for me

JFK was killed by the same group of indivisuals who killed OJ Simpson's wife, Jeanbenet Ramsey, Pope John Paul I, ELvis Presley, and Sonny Bono.

Close examination of the Zapruder film shows two shots, both from the rear. The first shot passed through Kennedy's body (exiting his neck) and struck Gov Connely. The second shot struck Kennedy in the back of the head, exiting the front. An additional shot missed the motorcade entirely.

There's no evidence of a gunman on the grassy knoll or elsewhere, except in Oliver Stone's mind. Witnesses report seeing smoke near the knoll's fence, but that is consistent with cigarette butts found in the area. There were simply so many people around that an additionaly gunman could not have gone unnoticed.

I agree with Squire's assessment. However, I think it unlikely that the bullet found on the strecher (magic bullet) was the one that struck either men. Again, unlikely, but not impossible.

I think there were at least two gunmen. The first bullet struck President Kennedy from behind and the fatal bullet to his head came from in front.

At least that's my opinion from the film and shows I wastched in 1988 on the 25th anniversary of the assassination - at least by the time I stopped watching all of those shows because it finally got to me seeing repeated film of Mr. Kennedy's brains being blown out. :(

Secondly, the path that the bullet would have had to have taken to make all of those injuries is simply too fanciful. Thirdly, the Zapruder films shows the physical reaction of Kennedy which is inconsistent with a shot coming from behind. There are too many problems with a single gunman theory to make it work.

For the record, I believed all of this long before Stone's movie.

Yes, I too must chime in here and say it was probably a conspiracy.
    1. Lee Harvey Oswald, using a bolt action rifle firing (let's say) three shots from the book depository at a moving target, and having two hit the President. Really? Was HE that good? In the military he PASSED his shooting drills, he was OKAY as a marksman, but not a sharpshooter by any means. They did have expert sharpshooters recreate this feat and they had trouble doing it.
    2. Dispite all the girations they used to show that the one bullet theory could have worked, how believable is it?
    3. How convienent that they were able to find that bullet just lying there on a stretcher at the Hospital!
    4. After doing all of the damage that this bullet supposedly caused, would it still be in pristine condition?
5.A Doctor at the Hospital, who has never sought noteriety said he knows what he saw on the President: an entry wound in the front, and an exit wound in the back. A Doctor in a big city hospital will know gun shot wounds.
    6. Could a shot fired from the back cause the President's head to jerk backwards?
    7. Ahhh! They will say, the film does show splatter going forward. Well, I find that I rather enjoy these forensic shows on TV to find out how they solve crimes. On one of these shows they discussed blow-by: that blood will splatter, not in the direction the bullet travelled, but in the direction the bullet came from.
Put it all together and I smell a rat.

Look at the Zapruder film. Is there any hint of it appearing that any of the Secret Service agents reached inside their coats before the shots? Or that Jackie looked toward any of them before hysterically trying to scramble away from them? Just wondering.

Did someone put Oswald up to killing Kennedy? That's certainly a possibility. The Kennedy's made a host of powerful and ruthless enemies in their rise to power. Did someone assist in the act of shooting of the president? In Case Closed, Gerald Posner argues very persuasively that Oswald acted alone. He interacts with the conspiracy theories and refutes them. The hard, known facts are in favor of the the single assasin view. With it, you have Oswald in the Texas Book Depository, you have a rifle with his prints on it, you have three bullets marked by his rifle, and you have the balance of acoustic evidence and visual evidence from the Zapruder film on the side of three shots and only three shots being fired. Are there unanswered questions? Yes. However, the lone assasin theory is built upon the known facts. Until/unless other facts come to light (if they exist), that answer will remain the most reasonable answer to the question of who shot JFK.

No, the film clearly shows the front of Kennedy's head moving out in a classic "splatter" pattern, consistent with a frontal exit wound. Independent ballistic tests on cadaver skulls have confirmed this.

This supports the conclusion that two bullets hit their mark and were fired from behind.

Not really. If the Kennedy and Connoly were sitting perfectly straight, facing forward, the bullet would have had to zig-zag. However, the Zapruder film shows that Kennedy was leaning one way, and Connelly another, waving to the crowd. When taking into consideration the actual positions of the men, the bullet path would be rather linear.
