Great Superbowl Halftime Show

Had a little get together with our Adult Bible Fellowship class, and some other folks to watch the game, and have some fellowship. (Baptist way of saying, "Eat and Talk")

We turned off the game at Halftime, went upstairs, and listened to a mini-concert by a guy in our church who is an amazing Guitar player.

He played some of his own guitar arrangements and original songs, several of my absolute favorite hymns, and some fun music, Beyond the Sea, in a neat Jazz style, a little blugrass.

Amazingly beautiful arrangements, that highlight the melody and allow you to hear the words in your head (he is not a singer) And I have never heard a guitar sound so full.

No offense meant to Paul McCartney, but it was one of the best Halftime Shows I have seen. And there were no wardrobe malfunctions.

Sounds great, Superdave. On New Years Eve, we had some friends over and gathered around the piano and sang some southern gospel music. Lots of fun.

BTW...I commented last night about the half time show with McCartney. It wasn't my idea of great, and of course there are problems with some of McCartney's music, but it was the least offensive program that I've seen at the Superbowl for awhile.

It appeared to be an honest attempt to put on a good show, rather than an attempt to be as degrading and offensive as possible.

Paul McCartney has something most halftime shows lack. Actual talent. I thought the show was outstanding, but I do agree, some of his music is pretty anti-Christian. But for a secular show, this was great.

And I loved the recognition of our service men & women.

I heard a caller on teh radio today saying he went to a church last night to watch the game and was hoping to see McCartney at halftime. Instead, the church showed a video of Kurt Warner. He was pretty upset at the church. To me, it was all too indicative of hte problems when the church tries to use the world's stage to do its business. It creates problems.

Just thought you might be interested....

...a few years ago Paul McCartney was being interviewed on the Oprah Winfrey show. She asked him when the Beatles knew for sure that it was "all over" for them as group.

He replied that they knew it was over when John made that unfortunate remark about them being bigger than Jesus Christ.

He said that it started in the southern United States with major cities cancelling concert tours and they knew that it was over.

He did say that John meant it as a wisecrack about their tours pulling in far more people than the churches were "pulling in". He said that John did not mean it as saying they were superior to Jesus. It just came out that way. He said that John was very embarrassed that people took it to mean that he was claiming superiority over Jesus.

However, John was not there (obviously) to ask him just exactly what he meant. So we will never know.

I have always liked Paul McCartney. I can't say anything about his spiritual beliefs, but he is devoted family man.

We went to church Sunday night. Went out to eat and got home in time for the half time show. Paul is old school, but at least nobody grabbed themselves or exposed any body parts. The rest of the evening we spent together finishing up homework and such.

I think the Federal Communications Commission was about to outlaw the half-time show after last year's little stunt. They came very close to handing out some huge fines. Plus, this along with kicking the foul mouthed New York disk-jocky off the air had a lot to do with the networks playing a little more decent this year.

Sadly, though, I don't think it will last. They will continue to push the evenlope when they think they can get away with it again. ..just my opinion that this is the way America is headed without a revival to Christ.
