@Benjamin, Can you simply explain the chart to one who flunked Economics 101?
(use China as the example).

If I understand this chart correctly, China has been charging us 67% for our goods going there while with these new tariffs we will be charging China 34%. Is that correct?

We were charging China nothing before the 34% tariff and I noticed that all the countries that are in the habit of charging us high tariffs are only being hit back with 50% reciprocal tariffs and believe this is to temporarily lesson the blow to their economies due to this change.

No. Are you going to feel foolish when the USA thrives and you find yourself on the wrong side of history? :D
You are delusional. It didn’t work the last time he dipped his toe in this ridiculous solution that bankrupt farmers during his last term in office….and now he has just made enemies that will usher in democrats back into the government. How strategically he has planned for another disaster. It’s like watching a car crash in slow motion.:(

Trump and Musk have said that if we don't stop the rest of the world from robbing us, and take a rein to spending, our government will be bankrupt. The candy is being taken from the babies and they are crying bloody murder.

No other president would tackle this problem. Thank God He gave us Donald Trump.

It might get tight for a while, but we have no choice but to take action. We've got the right man in the WH to do it.

Yeah. I was hoping someone could explain this on here too. I was shocked to see the tariffs other countries were putting on us and then I read in the WSJ that they are using some math to come up with those numbers that would make the Gates Foundation proud. They are doing something with the trade deficit being taken into the calculation as well. This does not mean that these other countries are flat out adding on the percentage of the cost shown on the chart to each good we export to them.

I'm in favor of bringing manufacturing home but in the case of some little African country where most people have no money and they supply us with gum Arabic or something mined I don't see why we should demand that they have a balanced trade deficit with us. They have no ability to do that.

There's going to be a ton of negotiations that comes out of this. Be patient, wait and see.

Methinks that you are leftist listening and are as uninformed as the rest of them.

Yeah. That's what I hear too. Somebody, one of the experts on TV, was saying that for example Japan holds tons of us dollars and they were going to be asked to take some of that and purchase very long term US debt in exchange for reducing the tariffs. I have noticed there are a lot of experts on TV.

Methinks?!? Come on, you don’t think…you are an idiot. So go take a flying leap for yourself.

I was a manufacturer of electrical and electronic products for 30 years and we used to make everything in our factories in the USA up until Bush Senior approached the owner of the company with a plan to move the manufacturing to Mexico and Canada.so we liquidated our factories here and moved them and guess what, the competitors moved their factories to China and why did they do that…cause China was still more competitive than Canada and Mexico. If we stayed with those countries we would have gone bankrupt. So if the US imposes a 50% tariff (a tax on the the country of origin …in this case China) shipping into the US in order to sell to the importer of the goods…the tax is paid by the importer and passed along to the consumer thus raising the price to the customer. If the Tariff is punitive then the price goes up to the consumer exponentially thus it makes the cost to expensive..

Now even if my factories were to begin making products in the USA, we could not compete with China in our labor rates which would then require union rates, operational costs, raw material costs etc, but the consumer could not or would not pay those exorbitant prices…so even if we were to make it in America nobody would buy it (too expensive)….I fail to see how this vodka drinking protectionist guy is going to construct an amicable relationship between China and the USA using Trumps system of Tariffs. not today anyway and not without chip manufacturers, Steel and aluminum manufacturers, plastics extrudes etc. just what am I missing?

You do understand that the U.S. is on the verge of insolvency, right? Something has to be done to turn this around.
