A very Happy St Patricks Day to all those unfortunate enough to be someplace beside Ireland in this marvelous day!

The bacon and cabbage is on the stove, brown soda bread about ready to go in the oven and the poatoes are simmering with the bacon and cabbage. Wish you all could be here! Not really, cause there would be less for me :).

And best of all, on the day we celebrate the life of that great 5th century missionary, our church is having a baptism tonight!

    I really love this country!!!!

I'm not Irish (at least I don't think) but I have always been fascinated by their history. Their determination to survive and thrive in a world that seems out to destroy them is amazing and often uplifts me a bit when I start being a crybaby.

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon Conor MacNessa's very interesting death while reading Seumas MacManus 'The Story of the Irish Race'

No - but a solid gospel preacher and great example of a missionary. To his 5th century world Ireland was indeed the 'uttermost parts' and that was his motivation to come here.

Do they wear green over there or is that an American thing?

Folks going to parades will wear green, but most folks would not. A sprig of shamrock is traditional.

I even had a corned beef sandwich with a Harp to help celebrate.

My great/great/etc. grandparents arrived in Virginia from Ireland back in the 1700's.

I have a lot of Scotch-Irish, so I'm not sure how Irish that is.

But I forgot to wear green today - I had on blue. :tonofbricks:

On corned beef - not Irish, sorry. Its an American addition since you folks can't get a proper bacon over there.

On blue - don't feel bad. That is St Patrick's traditional colour and until the tri-colour the Irish flag was a harp on a blue field.

My name is Irish, I know my paternal line came from County Cork, and I know our coat of arms, which has 3 whiskey mugs. But St. Patrick's Day has never had any meaning for me, as for anything to do with Pat or Eire. However, that was the day, 40 years ago, that I made my decision for Christ, while a 4th grader. It was at a county-wide youth rally/revival that lasted Sunday through Wednesday, and the featured speaker was a former baseball player, Mike Brumley.

I hope you had a wonderful day Roger and all the Irish among us. I wore green, but we are on Spring Break and I didn't leave the house (hallelujah!), so I didn't see a soul.

Our baptism was marvelous last night. We had close to 60 people there from all over the area. Some had never seen a baptism before.

Only a couple of pics up HERE
