The last two posts indicate the problem in America. So called Christians flippant attitude towards the Word of God.

God had somethng definite to say about witchcraft whether it is a cutsey story or a wican group.

Following the Word of God isn't optional for Christians it is essential.

HArry Potter is just as evil as the forbidden fruit in the garden.

Why? Even after all the anti Harry Potter books I have read, I end up comming back to the fact that it is just fantasy. Otherwise the book's arguments are filled with emotion and no facts.

The problem I see with Harry Potter is that it is geared towards such a young group of kids that can't tell the difference between reality and fantasy. So I don't let my three year old play Harry Potter on the XBox (Rated "E" for everyone), watch the movies or read the books (or have them read to him). Just like I won't let him watch Lord of the Rings, etc.

But forbiden fruit? It seems a little extreme to label a bit of fiction. For that matter was the fruit evil or was it the actions of Adam and Eve?

    Wizard of Oz?

The Sorcerer's Apprentice starring Mikey Mouse?

    Bewitched with Elizabeth Montgomery?

    The Tales of King Arthur?

I never considered these on a par with forbidden fruit. Perhaps it's because the real fruit of the discussion is the dead horse that's been thouroughly beaten.

...And herein lies the problem, what do men accept as sin and what does God say. Some of you have made your choice to disregard the Word of God and are determined to go with whatever is popular, well so did the Isrealites in the wilderness. They have definite instructions but chose to do their own thing. Well, enjoy as you are the ones who will one day answer to a holy God [IMG] for disregarding his Word. Just as stiff necked as the Israelites!

I find your remark that a Christian who reads Harry Potter has "made a choice to disregard the Word of God" as offensive.

I do not disregard the Word of God. I simply find your interpretation of the matter a little extreme.

Typical Hyper-fundamentalist thinking. If you disagree with me, you are an enemy of God.

These people seem to think that they, exclusively, speak for God.

Agree. What SOME accept and label as "sin" and what God says are simply not the same. I grew up under legalism, where modern pharisees made up rules and regs for "good christians", then said that it was GOD'S Word.

I have a word for them. LIARS. And such were some of us . . .

I am NOT a Harry Potter fan, and don't even care much for fantasy per se (I'm a history nut). But I'm still waiting for a single verse that condemns science fiction or fantasy or fairy tales or such.

Glad you continued the discussion. Looks like a lot more must be said.
