I know there is Idiots guide for everything. However has anyone bothered to read this one. Looks like it could do more damage than good.

No, I haven't heard of this, why would someone even read that when they have the real thing?

I haven't read it. Is it considered to be a valid or invalid translation?

It's not a translation...but more of a survey book--written to a non-academic audience. More about understanding the backgrounds than unpacking the theology.

If it piques folks interest in the Real Thing, I'm sure God can use it.

For most Christians, it might be shallow. I lost interest after looking at it a couple of months ago in a bookstore.

I have skimmed through The Bible for Dummies (part of the Dummies series on everything) out of curiosity once while I was in Barnes & Noble.

Thanks for the input. I threw out all scripture I had pre-dating 1611.

Nice touch too...to attack versions of God's word and put a "thumbs up" there. Really classy.

I also enjoyed the diversion away from the OP. I'm sure that will make this the pivotal thread of human history.

After reading some posts on BB, some should get it and read it.

I wonder where I can get it.

I read the Kenneth Copeland Research Study Bible.

Oh, wait, that's not "The Bible for Idiots", that's "The Bible By an Idiot".

    Yes I have this one

    Yes, I have this one.

Sometimes I will look at it if I am having trouble with a chapter or a verse. There are a couple of other books I may also reference.

It's not as good as I had hoped it would be, and I really don't like how it lumps all 4 of the gospels together.

Many people like these books, and the similiar 'dummies' books because they know that it's an introduction book and there won't be anything that they won't understand. (hopefully.)
