Has anyone visited Lancaster PA?

Park City Mall is a great place to visit... many shops.
Central Market in Penn Square... a farmer's market.
Several museums... including Leonard and Mildred Rothman's Gallery.

Take a ride 20 miles east to Holtwood and visit Amish farms... definitely a step back into the pre=electric past.

 

The Mennonites have an interesting "Biblical Tabernacle Reproduction in Lancaster:

First off, you gotta know how to pronounce it.
Lanc'-as-ter not Lan'-cas-ter

Lancaster's just an hour away from here; my in-laws will be moving there...
...if they ever sell their house.

Check out Sight and Sound's Millennium Theatre [LINK], it's quite touristy and a bit expensive, but if you haven't done it yet you ought to visit

They put on a nice production and have you look at a favorite Bible story in a new way.

Lancaster's getting quite built up now with traffic jams every weekend.
My favorite pastime is traveling slow on the back roads and enjoying the country (nothing smells better than horse manure!).
Of course my wife likes visiting the roadside quilt shops and sampling the root beer and cider.

You beat me to it. I've been there a few times, it's really quite interesting. Lancaster is a fun area. Enjoy the buffets, they got some good eating up there. Also, check out the Strasburg Railroad. If you're going at the beginning of July, there's a great corn maze. Here's some great museums in the area.

I spend all summer trying to keep them out of my garden.

I'll be visiting the Strasburg Rail Road mid June with my grandson when Thomas the Train (toot-toot) goes on tour;
he's one of Thomas' smaller fans. :laugh:

I'm a frequent visitor. If you like antiques and such, check out Cackleberry Farm antique mall on hwy 30 east of Paradise. I found one those "Antique Road Show" finds there.

I recommend that you stay away from the Strasburg Railroad in the early spring. If you get on there, like I did, right after all the farmers have fertilized there fields, usually with manure, it really stinks.

You can get less congestion yet plenty of shopping and restaraunts if you go to Bird-in-Hand or Intercourse.

Yes, that's actually the names of some of the nearby towns. Bird-in-Hand, Intercourse, Paradise, Blue Ball. You can imagine the jokes that arise from that! (Am I blushing?)

There's no such thing as discount Amish products. If it's cheap, it's probably not genuine Amish made. But you get your mony's worth if you can afford it. Amish furniture is premium quality craftsmanship and the material is the real stuff. No lamination.
