To any group or person?

If yes, what is the proof?

Throughout the OT, God spoke through the prophets. His complete revelation of who He is can be seen in Christ. The apostolic age is done and this revelation is recorded. We need no other revelation other than Christ. My answer to the thread is a resounding “no.”

Private revelation for the benefit of its recipient? Probably yes.

Public revelation for the benefit of the church? No. This ended with the death of the last apostle.

According to 1Cor 12 -- yes.
According to 1Cor 14:1 - yes.
According to Eph 4:4-11 - yes - until the second coming of Christ.

There is no text in all of scripture that says "when John dies - God will stop providing the 1Cor 12 gift of prophecy".

And of course - John writes more Bible - after the book of Revelation. Hence the Gospel of John.

in Christ,

Bob

Most conservative Christians place revelation in mid 90's, but even if not the last book written of the Canon age wise, there wee N O revelations received from God after John died!

But...John didn't write the Gospel of John after he died (which was kinda the question) :D I would add that the passage in Revelation may not refer to what became the canon but to the book of Revelation. For me, the problem with continued special revelation (as in additional scripture) isn't that passage but the end of the age of the apostles.

True.

Ellen White and others had the 1Cor 12 gift of prophecy after the death of John.

Fortunately there is no Bible text that says that "after the death of john 1Cor 12 and 1Cor 14:1 is to be ignored" ... :)

would add that the passage in Revelation may not refer to what became the canon but to the book of Revelation..

Agreed. But I think it also applies on a secondary level to each book of the Bible - no editing adding to any of them.

I believe the scriptures is all God has to say to the church as a whole.

Not according to the Bible.

In 1Cor 14 "Each one has a revelation" when they came to church - yet not a one of their revelations were then turned into scripture.

Bob

Yet interestingly, Ellen White's "revelations" are held equal to scripture by the SDA church. So even though the SDA claims her writings are not scripture, they still obey them just as though God spoke then Himself. So to the SDA Ellen's words are God's words. There is not one revelation given by her that the SDA would say "no, she was wrong about that". And it then follows in the minds of the SDA that if others hear her words and do not obey EGW's writings they will be held accountable for their disobedience. Anytime ANY Christian sect adds performance to God's Grace as a requirement for gaining or maintaining God's Grace it is attempting to take away from the glory which belongs to Jesus Christ alone.

Also notice how there is not one non-apostle revelation given that was written down and circulated among the churches as a source for doctrine. Not one, but what was done with EGWs revelations? Red flag...

The gift of prophecy being inspired revelations from God either written or spoken ceased when John died, as Jesus confirmed that ONLY His Apostles would ahve that authority, and paul was last One gifted for that, and John last one to pass away!

there is NO need for ANY additional revelations from God, as he said ALL that he had to say to us in person of jesus and the canon!
