Has this ever happened in your church?

Yes this happens probably in most churches. Sometimes GOD grants a special blessing to his people. There are times that you may not think the preaching wasn't as sweet as you would won't it to be and maybe to someone else there are tears of joy in their face. I believe if ministers were greatly blessed at every service, they may get as I would say "the ig headed" and would think they are the one in control. If a Minister get too confident, God may not open his mind to thething os GOD and may take a whipping. Being humble will do a Minister much good. What do others think about this matter and have they witnessed this also?

 

It happened during one of the Welsh revivals. The preacher stood up to preach and couldn't...He was speechless. All of a sudden, the congregation broke out in song. There were tears and confessions, there was praise to God and thanks for His mercies. This was not only in one congregation, but spread all over Wales at the same time. There were souls which came to Christ, others who repented of sin, and all sang praises unto God, without human instruments, just the voices of God's people everywhere.

Jim, I've read a bit about the Welsh revivals. One writer told that people merely walking by a church would be overcome by the power of the Holy Spirit, come under great conviction, and confess Christ as Lord amid tears.

I have also seen God's Spirit poured out in my own congregation, as Pastor David described. As I recall the first evidence was that the singing was different. In many of those services, the pastor never got to preach. A spontaneous testimony seemed to be the trigger.

No no case was the Spirit ever "worked up" by the music or any other means. It was something that God did in such a way that we could not point to anything we did to cause it. Oh, and the whole time English was spoken.

Reminds me of a pastor who said, "I don't care how spiritually high you get, just as long as you're speaking English all the way up and when you come down." (insert other recognizable language where appropriate.)

 

Yes, the Welsh revivals were amazing and they did affect the man in the street. The language did switch between Welsh and English, but started in a Welsh church. In each case it stared with silence. One could not speak at all try as they may. They couldn't even read scripture. The breaking out in song was spontaneous...........how did they know to sing the same song?

The key to these revivals was confession one to another, and to God; souls under conviction in the community; churches throughout Wales experiencing the same. There is no possibly way it could have been planned by a hundred men, let alone one man in one church.

Would to God that we would experience the same thing in as great a way...............I wonder sometimes how many could handle such a revival.

When this happens in my church...which is not often enough...I refer to it as "the glory of God falling" upon us. What an experience!

 

I too have been in services like this. It is too rare an event. The ole timers used to say it got "foggy" in the church. Referencing the Shekinah glory cloud that used to descend upon His children in the O.T.. I love it when it gets foggy in church!!!

 

I also have experienced days like that. It is a true 'pentecostal' experience.

I remember one time when our service started with a ladies trio singing "We are standing on holy ground". Our pastor was moved to tears. he got up and gave an invitation with NO preaching (not even an offering was taken!), although he may have quoted some Scripture- i don't remember. Several came forward for salvation and re-dedication. It was a 'hallmark' day in the life of our church.
