My current congregation has not planted a new church in their history. That is about to change, but until it does, I am pastor of a flock who has never extended itself into another people.
Otherwise, I have been part of other churches who have planted churches. Sojourn is now somewhere around 15 and more on the way (they are only 10-years old themselves and have 4 campus locations that extend their own congregation all around the area, plus have started a world-wide network and hired the personnel to plant others). Before that, Valley View, who started one new work in the past 5 years, but started about 10 over its life.
Before that, I was the pastor and associational moderator of a General Baptist church and I helped to plant one church in the 5 years I was there.
Before that, I was the lead planter for Rolling Hills Church in Platteville, WI. We adopted a mother church for the start, but they technically did not "plant" the new congregation. Most of the efforts came from outside the mother church and they were there mostly for spiritual support. RHC is now 10 years old and owns a building that was once the home of the Christian Science group on the town square of the city. I used to go there to witness and pray (and argue... :laugh
and one of my prayers was that God would give us that building. He did!
Before that, I assisted with two other church starts (both failed) in Wisconsin, one in Wisconsin Rapids and the other near Tomah. They failed because the motives of the senior pastor (not me) were financial instead of directed to God. He was in it becasue he got MONEY from the Home Mission Board, but did nothing with it except use it for his own gain. Meanwhile the poor congregation members worked their tails off to try to get one of the new works off the ground. I learned how NOT to start a new congregation from that effort.
I am also a Nehemiah Project (NAMB) trained church starter, a NAMB trained church planter assessor, and have practical experience in starting new congregations, having assisted in multiple others not listed here.
