Can you think of a time when you might have entertained an angel?

Not personally, but my husband's former pastor's wife had an experience in which she believes an angel saved her life.

She'd been in a severe car accident and the steering wheel was pressing in on her chest. I believe it was that the rescuers were unable to get her out of the car, and it might even have been a case where the car was burning.
Then a young man appeared sitting next to her on the passenger seat. He actually said, "Don't be afraid." THen he put his feet up on the dash and pushed, until she could get free. She got out of the car, and he was gone.

Who knows? Treat everyone as if you were entertaining angels. But remember, satan can transform himself into an angel of light. (2 Cor. 11:14)

Vladimir Guerrero, aka "Vladdy" or "Vlad", is a cherished right-fielder on the Anaheim Angels and winner of the MVP award.

CLick here to view Vladimir Guerrero's MLB stats.

I was at a local restaurant recently, and he came in and sat near us. He was very polite, charming, and humble. So, you see, I technically might have entertained an Angel [IMG] .

Of course I can't be sure, but....Last Thanksgiving day I had a house full of extended family that had traveled from out of state to be with us for the Holiday. We had eaten our Thanksgiving feast and were settling down for an afternoon of sports and gossip. My doorbell rang and I immediantly felt annoyed that someone would bother us on Thanksgiving day. I went to the door and there stood a man with a little catalog in his hand. He told me he was raising money for his college tuition. He asked me if I wanted to "look at his book of trinkets". (I was living in Texas at the time, and the word "trinket" is not a word we used a lot in that part of the country. We sure hadn't heard of a whole catalog of "trinkets") All I could think of at the moment was, how dare he disturb my holiday, and I practically slammed the door in his face.
I turned around to go back to my guests. I had taken a couple of steps when a thought came to me that I had just been very rude to that man and how sad it was that he was trying to earn money on Thanksgiving day. I turned back around and opened the door thinking he had not had time to walk down my sidewalk and I would ask him if he would like a plate of food, but he had vanished. We lived on a cul-de-sac and I would have seen him walking to the main street. He could not have cut through the back yard because it was required for everyone in our sub. to have a wood fence around the backyard. The next day, I asked several of my neighbors if they had been visited by a salesman and all of them told me no. All I know for sure, if it was an angel that knocked on my door, I failed the test miserably.

Of course, maybe that was Satan disguised as an angel of light, and therefore you did the right thing ;) .

Thats funny to find s thread about this topic b/c last week I made the remark about entertaining angels. Here is the story..... We had a grass fire and when we arrived we couldn't get in the field it was just me and the Chief, when ramming the gate didn't work this young man came out of nowhere. He helped pull the red line hose off the truck as the Chief got the pumper running and started getting water on the fire. When the Chief jumped back in the truck I told him to drive though the barbed wire fence and this time we got into the field. The young man kept close to the Chief and fought the fire along side him until the other fire departments arrived. Then as mysteriously as he showed up he was gone. The other night at our weekly training meeting I asked the Chief if he ever found out who the young man was. He said no one knows who he was, but he sure wished he could find out because (in the Chief words) "He sure knew how to hang tough with the best of 'em". Thats when I asked the Chief if he thought we might of been entertaining an angel that day. [IMG]

My wife and I were about to eat supper one evening when a man knocked on the door, stating he was hungry and had smelled the cornbread my wife had made, we invited him in to eat with us, but he refused, saying he only wanted a piece of he cornbread and maybe some milk.

My neighbor, an elderly man was sitting on his porch across the narrow alley way between our homes (about 50 feet) watching me talk to the man.

With only my wife and I, I gave the man half of the cornbread and a quart jar of milk, he thanked me, turned and walked to the other side of the street and toward the corner, a large brick building border the sidewalk with no doors or windows all the way to the corner, over half a block.

When I turned back to my wife she suggested he might want a piece of pie, I walked out into the street looking for him, but he was gone.

I turned to my neighbor and ask him where the man went, he answered, "WHAT MAN"??

What man, the one I was just talking to at my door.

He said: I saw you but I didn't see anyone else.

A day or so later I had a long conversation with my neighbor, he had observed each of my actions, and not seeing anyone else, was wondering about my "insanity".

Okay, here's my story...back when I drove, on the outskirts of town, I was entering an intersection at a good speed where I had the right-of-way. Just as I got in the middle, an old couple pulled right out in front of me and stopped! I was horrified and knew I didn't have enough time to stop myself, so I veered, hoping I wouldn't broadside them too bad.

I didn't feel anything...could I have missed?... but next, I saw I was headed straight for a bridge railing and gave it all to God. I closed my eyes and thought of my husband, my children, my family, but knew I'd be in heaven should I die.

The next thing I knew, I was headed back in the opposite direction and came to my senses enough to know to pull over. A trucker got out and came over and said, "Lady, that's some of the fanciest driving I've EVER seen; are you okay?". I sat there dumb-founded, nodding my head yes, and asked about that old couple. (They were okay too).

Don't know what happened, for I was no kind of expert driver, that's for sure, but 'someone' was. All I know is I thanked God. I've had many unusual things happen over the years; it's an exciting life being a Christian.

Wow - to some of these stories.

I think I had the opportunity to go to school with an angel. A wonderful young girl with Downs Syndrome. I hadn't had much experience with mentally handicapped people, and the schools were into that stuff called "main streaming," so the special needs children took some classes with the rest of us, and she ended up in my PE class. Our PE teacher knew I had a reputation of sticking up for the underdog, and asked me if I would mind helping the girl instead of playing with the teams. (Maybe she was saving the team. I'm terrible at sports.) In any case - I learned so much about love and forgiveness from Nancy. I would see people be horribly rude to her, the way only mean children can be, and when I would go to defend her, she'd hug me and say, "Its okay. They don't know they're mean."

Nancy is also the one who taught me that when it comes to God, you need to know your audience. I always carried a bible with me, and I despised the Good News for Modern Man. I was a Kings James Only kind of gal. Nancy caught me reading in the locker room though, and wanted me to read to her. I tried to tell her that I didn't think she'd understand what I was reading, she told me, "Doesn't Jesus love everybody? Even me?"

So, I searched and searched until I found the Good News and I checked the basic messages, and I brought it to her, and I read that to her. She cried and hugged me and cried and kissed me and told me no one had ever given her a bible that SHE could read before.

The last day of school her mother stopped me, told me they were going away, but that she wanted to thank me for being Nancy's friend. I told her, with all honesty, I should be thanking her for allowing me to know Nancy.

I haven't seen Nancy since that day, but she has stayed in my heart as evidence of what loving your enemies TRULY is, as evidence of what forgiveness TRULY is, as living proof that if we just accept God's will in our lives, no matter how hard our lot in life may end up, God can give us peace and joy. That's been almost 35 years ago.

Whereever she is, I'm sure Nancy is still an angel showing how we SHOULD live.
