The CNN article goes into much more detail about this case:

A dying mother's plea for her life - CNN

so in this scenario, the insurance company that initially denied the surgery would be the "death panel" but the difference is, she could have raised the funds herself.

This is a rare procedure, usually rejected because most patients die but bad PR shamed UHC. This probably just buys Erika a little more time, but glad she's getting at least a chance.

My brother-in-law received a liver transplant two years ago. His co-pay was $0. He is alive and healthy today because of our health care system here in the US.

I have received 100% of my health care from the US VA for over 19 years. I can honestly say I get the "Best Care Anywhere." Total cost to me? $0.

My wife gets her medical care from Medicare, for which she pays $135 per month, withheld from her Social Security. She also has a supplemental policy from Blue Cross and Blue Shield that covers everything that Medicare does not cover, including over the counter things like tooth paste etc. That supplemental policy has a $0 premium to my wife. Medicare pays it.

The US has the greatest healthcare in the world if we can keep the socialist politicians from stealing it to line their own pockets.

Then there is the British Health Care System.

Harold Shipman: Up to 260 people murdered by Doctor.

The Manchester GP was only convicted of 15 murders but an official report later concluded he had killed between 215 and 260 people between 1975 and 1998. The 57 year-old abused his position to take the lives of mainly elderly women by giving them lethal doses of drugs. His crimes were discovered in 1998 after he attempted to forge a £386,000 will of one of his victims, Kathlees Grundy, 81. He was convicted in January 2000 and sentenced to life in prison. He was found hanging in his cell in Wakefield prison on Jan 13, 2004.

When I worked at the GMC , I asked why we had many doctors from all over the world but very few from the USA. I was told that there was evidence the in the USA many could buy their qualifications.

We did not accept qualifications from countries, but from individual universities which were inspected. Not every university in each country was accepted.

Why no American Doctors in England? Do the math.

A salaried GP earns from about £55,000 to £80,000.

A specialist can earn up to £100,000.

On the other hand, in the US a GP makes from $175,000 to $250,000 and a specialist can make around $400,000.

I don't know where you get your figures from but there was a report a few years ago that GP's get over £100,000. Our medical practice has over 12 GP's over three sites, only one is salaried, the others are partners.
