What are you using to scan for it, and what have you tried to remove it?

OK I have MS antispyware & a nice little program called A-Squared forall types of malware.
The MS Malicious Software removal tool, Norton Anti-virus & Zone Alarm firewall(basic)
The MS anti spy found these two plus others yesterday but didn't completly remove them. I've learned by trial & error how to go into the registry to look for "bugs", but I'm beginning to think these are in the DOS which I'm not real familar with.

I use Firefox with several of their extensions and Norton's full package and have not had a pop up in months.

Look up adaware from lavasoft.com. I use it and it seems to do a good job.

Look up AVG Free, it's a freeware antivirus...

In fact, just go here. It's a list of the 46 most useful freewares ever.

There are good trojan removers and whatnots there too.

I think AVG really slows down your computer. Mine was getting really slow and I uninstalled AVG and it seemed to get a little better.

Whew! NS thats a lot to go thru. But I am already downloading Firefox to give it a try. My major problem is space...I only have a 7.5 Gb HD with 160Mb Ram, & about 20% of space is already used. I run a AMD 300 processor ( yeah I know) but mabey someday i can do better. But I also know better protection is worth some space.
Well gotta run for now but I really appreciate the input from all of yuns!!

I've posted this before, but it's worth posting again.
You already have MS AntiSpy, and Pastor Larry suggested AdAware (definately download it). Be sure to download Spybot as well.

AdAware = 2.7MB
Spybot = 4.89MB
TweakNow = 0.905MB

You may want to clean up your hard drive first, though. Start with steps 3-5. Then go with step 2, then step 1. Yeah, I could reorder them, but I laid them out this way for a reason... but your needs are different than when I originally wrote this.

Oh, I am assuming that you are running Windows 95 or 98? If so, you will have to run ScanDisk before you run Disk Defragmenter. Both of them are found in Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools.

You can't go wrong with Firefox. You will need a few extensions:
NoScript- https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=722&application=firefox
Fasterfox- https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1269&application=firefox
Tabbrowser Preferences- https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=158&application=firefox
TinyUrl Creator- https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=126&application=firefox
CookieCuller- https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=82&application=firefox
BBCodeXtra- https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=491&application=firefox
Disable Targets For Downloads- https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=241&application=firefox
IE Tab- https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1419&application=firefox
Fitt's Back Button- http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/lofiversion/index.php/t3955.html

Don't worry about the size of the extensions. They range from 2KB (for Fitt's Back Button) to 156KB (for IE Tab). They are rather small, but add customization to Firefox.

Trotter

I'm running 2000 Pro. It has no MSCONFIG, or it never installed. I don't have the room or ram to use XP but I like 2000 a lot. I've used 95,98SE.Mill. & my stepson has XP on his but I still prefer mine.
I"ve been on & off the site that NS suggested looking & downloading some things. They recomend adaware too but haven't got to it yet.
I managed to do my own seek & destroy on the nexus & haven't had anymore popups.
I'll do the things here you recomend for the remaining ykoiro.exe
Do you happen to know if there is ANY program that will search thru the DOS for malware. Like I said I'm not real good at working in it. Just in case I'm right & it is in there.

There are too many different programs for malware to even begin to list them, but I don't know about searching DOS with them. I'm guessing you just meant the operating system?

2000 is a good OS. Make sure that you have it completely updated. There are some new worms and such out that exploit unpatched holes... like that's new, huh?

2000 doesn't have MSCONFIG, so don't sweat it.

I'm pretty sure that TweakNow will work for Win2000, though.

Keep it updated automaticly, & no I meant a program that would run in the DOS to search it. I had a program infect the dos once before & was blessed that I was able to find help at the MS tech forum & a person there was able to give me specific steps to remove it. But not with this one. I may have actually gotten it off without realizing it cause I haven't seen any evidence of it operating the past two days, but I've also learned some like to snooze at times. But still I'm folling ALL the advice given by you & the others to keep it clean. Don't like playing in the registry that much!!
Thanks to ALL!!

I'm running win XP, I don't know if that is relevant to my situation, but my computer was real slow. I defragged the hard drive, I deleted Netscape because whenever I would go to Yahoo or anyother like that, Netscape would try to block it, however that wasn't the cause of my problems.

I found I had two Firewalls on at the same time, I turned one off and that took care of it.
Now as to how two firewalls were on at the same time I do not know. The only thing that comes to mind is either my wife did it or the dog did it.
:confused: :rolleyes: [IMG]

Automatic updates are fine, but you need to got to Microsoft's site and check for all updates. Go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com with Internet Explorer (MS doesn't like you to update with a different browser). Click "Custom" and let it scan your comp for any missing updates.

I don't know of any that would work in DOS, but starting your comp up in Safe Mode and scanning would help. Safe Mode only has the bare minimum running, so the nasties are sound asleep and can't hide.

Playing in the registry can kill a comp PDQ if you aren't careful or don't know what you're doing. That's why I like TweakNow... it goes and looks for what doesn't belong and brings it back for you to choose what to delete.

Preacher, be sure to REALLY clear your temp files. Go to Start, Search, Find Files or folders, choose all files and folders and type in *.tmp You can safely remove ALL those files. When I used ICQ as a chat, I had over 3,900 temp files on my computer! After doing that, empty your recycle bin. It may take several times if you have thousands.

A2squared is good but the Norton 2006 has the same functions so I removed it.

Diane
